Craft in Motion: Iris Folding by Eileen Goddard
Craft in Motion: Iris Folding by Eileen Goddard
I got this book out of the library. I have written 500+ reviews. I VERY RARELY give a score below 3 or feel the need to trash a book. However, after looking at the mostly positive reviews (I have my doubts these reviews actually even looked at the book), I couldn't help myself. The book has almost no instruction on iris folding. Only one project, the circle was numbered. All the rest of the templates were unnumbered in the back and needed (IMHO) to be enlarged. There were lots of pictures, but none of the iris folding ones were helpful and the rest were mostly about adding stuff like feathered angel wings or making grass to the cards. There are a ton a reviews here, so I won't repeat (please don't unhelpful vote me) it all here, I just wanted to add a few comments. I liked this book and it will definitely on my Christmas list (Library copy for now) in December. However, I did have some issues along the way. It's defiantly a good book starting point for those new to soldering and glass cutting, especially those that want to add a new dimension to their collage artwork. I loved the little glass house lamp (she even gives wiring directions) shown on the cover and her advice on doing collage when your have writer's (or more artist's) block.
At the same time, I am quite annoyed at one project (a few other's used hard… Read more

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
As both a bird and animal lover, I adored this book. I had never heard the story of Alex before and once I picked up the book, I couldn't put it down. This is not only the story of the bird, but of the author, Irene Pepperbergs's, journey. I laughed, cried and cheered her on, as she struggled to research Alex's mind with little support from the general academic community.

As a female living in modern times, it gave me a new appreciation for the equality we have today. I guess I never realized how hard it was for a female to survive, let alone obtain success, in the male dominated world of science just a few decades ago. The author was a pioneer in animal intelligence. I was… Read more
