I am a musican Bass & Guitar singer/songwriter and have been for over 30 years. I am a huge movie fan and have been involved in theater and film, in front of the camera and behind / acting, directing, sound, lights and set design. I do read quite a bit, but mostly for imformation such as film books, collecting and bios, etc.
Well it's finally here! The day all Marvel freaks have been waiting for...a decade has passed since we heard rumors that this titan team movie was in the works. The Avengers is without a doubt a complete success and for once lives up to the overwhelming hype.
Not ignoring character development, The Avengers manages a pretty tough feat! The story is long, but never boring and even though it takes time to develop, it's like a simmering pot that we all know is going to explode at some point!..and when the pot does explode, it explodes like no other superhero movie has ever done!
First off having Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, The Hulk, Hawkeye, The Black Widow and Nick Fury in one movie seemed impossible to give each character their due, but The Avengers does just that,(Fury could have been better utilized and I can't get used to Jackson playing the part.) I grew up with the scruffy cigar chomping BADA$$ white guy version from the 60's), but this film pulls off the impossible! I never once looked at my watch in it's two hour and twenty five minute length. Besides having a very ambitious story the action sequences are the best I've ever seen in a film of this nature.
The film has many comic moments which had the entire audience roaring with laughter with the Hulk (who is properly sized for once) delivering in spades this time around ( I guess they owed the character that much after two sub-par feature films). He and Robert Downey Jr. steal the show and give us those classic moments a popcorn film of this magnitude needs to keep everyone focused in on the fact that this is a film about comic book characters. Each character is given time to shine and having origin films for the main quadrant helps a great deal. I can't imagine how they're going to top this one?!
The Avengers rivals the very best of all comic book films including Spider Man 2 and Batman Begins and the 3D (which I usually find distracting) is the best I've ever seen. Trailers for the new Spider Man reboot and Batman films were also presented in 3D. Even if you're not really into superhero films, this is the summer's must see movie. Get a tub of popcorn and prepare for an incredible movie experience!.... and you WILL want to stay ALL the way to the end of the film as there is a false ending showing one of Marvel's Heavy Weight Villains before a funny ending scene a few minutes later. I hope Marvel reboots the Fantastic Four with a CGI Thing that could at least give the Hulk a fair battle.
I have been a huge fan of animation since I was a kid and Disney while not my personal favorite then has climbed to the top of my list. This DVD contains a documentary featuring two of 'The 9 Old Men" who brought so much magic to Disney and were the talent behind the genius Walt Disney.
The documentary is informative and very entertaining with insight and humor told by these two very talented men who formed a life long friendship. The main feature runs about a hour and forty minutes.
The bonus material is also very good, but there is a really irritating misstep in the menu. There is no Play All feature. Normally this wouldn't be a big deal, but the bonus material is broken up in 5 segments with 15 or so sub-segments. The lengths of these features range from 1 minute to 10 minutes all totaling around 45-55 minutes. Not having a Play All feature means that every couple minutes you have to go to the bonus menu and select another portion of these segments. It becomes tedious very quickly and brings my overall rating down a star.
This is certainly no reason to keep from buying this DVD and if you're a fan of the behind the scenes stuff or Disney animation fan, you'll want to add this to your collection.
I have tried many "energy drinks" and try to use them sparingly, but with everyone's overloaded schedules these days, it's easy to see why people buckle under for some "magic" pick me up sometimes. This particular drink is one of, if not the worst I've ever tried! It's so sweet that you will wince while swallowing this stuff. It also has a terrible taste(whatever flavor it is?)that will not leave you wanting more, but will leave a "I can't wait until it's over" sensation. If you want a good one that doesn't effect your stomach(like me, if I drink three cups of coffe, my stomach is wrenched!) try Celcius, it's very low carb and doesn't make you run out of gas. Like all of these drinks, it's easy to become addicted to them, use only when you just need a boost and not just because you like to ZING! ha-ha! ....Oh yeah and you all know the "magic" is caffeine... right? ;-b...Read more
I've been a vintage horror fan since I was a very young child and would stay up late every Friday and Saturday night having the likes of Lugosi, Karloff and Chaney enthrall me. I've read most books and seen most if not all documentaries on my late(fright)night heroes and revisiting this set I had to write a review on it. If you are a fan of the classic horror films of the masters, then this is a must buy for you.
The two disc set is out of print now and fetching much more than it did a few years ago while in print(I found it under $10.00!), but it's worth seeking out for a decent price. It host five documentaries each on one of the following, Lugosi, Karloff, Chaney Jr., Peter Lorre and Vincent Price. These are from the A&E Biography series and considering what they cost individually(about $20-$25 each), this set is a bargain.
Besides the 45 minutes documentaries we are treated to multiple trailers for each star and rarely seen interviews with Lugosi, promo with Karloff and Lugosi and more featuring each star. If I have any gripe whatsoever, it is that Lon Chaney Sr. should have been included.
The quality is excellent even on the trailers which are usually really battered. While no trailers are pristine, these range from generally worn and amazingly clear. The biographies are handled well and give a pretty good glimpse into these actors who ruled the horror genre then and are still the definitive versions of the monsters they played.
OK, who's to say which vitamin is better? It really doesn't matter as some think "you pay more you get a better product". This is not always true and I have a very good mutli-vitamin that is way cheaper and gives me the same ingredients this one does more or less. They've got a strange smell too! The bottle which is glass(I guess they figure they're going to charge you a ridiculous price, make it look really special in a glass bottle?) was broken, so I had to be careful to remove the glass and clean the pills. You also have to take three pills a day, which I find absurd! Why not make the same dose in ONE PILL, you know why? because 72 pills for the price they charge sounds more reasonable that 24 pills that's why! Do yourself a favor and go buy a decent multi-vitamin and save yourself a lot of money....unless you can afford $60.00 every 24 days for each person in your household?...Read more
OK folks, here's the deal. I wrote this review before any of the individual sets came out and from what I've gathered they are the same as this release except separated by the character's cartoons. This set has some good and bad news, but for the price, I suggest you buy it if you want any Harveytoons or want to get the most for your money. The set consist of 4 double sided disc with 7 episodes on each side. Each episode is comprised of 3 cartoons and a clip from one of more memorable moments of a Harveytoon.
The clips are a waste of space as well as the generic intros and endings. The time would have been better used for the missing cartoons on this set. The good news is the cartoons look pretty good with accurate color and minimal wear. The price I paid was $10.00(on sale) for 168 cartoons plus 56 clips. That's an excellent deal and it's hard to knock at that price!
The bad news is it's not complete and the cartoons are butted together so the intros of the actual cartoons aren't full length. The menus are horrible as there are no titles of the cartoons on the menu or written anywhere on the package! I suggest downloading the table of contents for the Harveytoon website like I did. The frustrating thing is that instead of adding generic intros and the 56 three minute clips of cartoons already on the set, they could have fit the missing cartoons to make this set truly complete! At worst add another disc and charge a little more to do it right.
Harveytoons have never been my favorite cartoons franchise, but I was amazed how many of these shorts I remembered. I have always like monsters, so a ghostly cartoon was hard for me to resist at a young age. I find these cartoons charming, but better suited for very young children, but it is nice to go back in time and for $10.00 this set is definitely a steal!
I have no problem with taking supplements for working out and general health, but I find using stimulates etc on a regular basis can make one dependant on such things and that is never a good thing. I didn't have any side effects from using these capsules, but I wouldn't buy them and I won't be using them, I just don't need it to get through my workouts. Eat right, get enough sleep and pick a routine that you can complete and always change it up when it gets too easy for you....Read more
I am a firm believer that you should be able to workout without such aids. As we get older and we have so much on our plates, it's really hard to live by this rule all the time. I have been know to use such aids from time to time when I'm just usual perky self. This drink does the job and does it well, I have had stuff that taste a bit better(not that this taste bad) and also made me have more endurance through a workout, but it works fine. You need to try several and find one that works best for you as everyone's body chemistry is different....Read more
While this is a nice cookware set for the price, you must ask yourself what you want from your cookware? If you want a versatile set that you can do anything to, this is NOT that set. It WILL be fine for everyday boiling and cooking, but you can not cook at high temperatures without liquid, which is something I do quite often. I do however find that non stick pans come in handy and are easier to use foe certain things, so they are a very nice pan for such things.
I do a lot of cooking and I love my Calphalon ONE set for my hardcore stuff, but when I need a non stick pan, then these are are go as any great non stick pan. Nice, heavy, sturdy pans.
This is a well made sturdy set of cookware and it will last a while, but the strength of the cookware isn't whats going to do these pans in, it's the non stick coating. Considering what a super quality Calphalon ONE set runs at retail, you could buy this set many times over, but that's a decision that you must make. I do like the chocolate color though.
My Calphalon ONE set is three years old and it looks like the day I bought it, I doubt I will ever have to replace it, but it does need to be taken care of as anything you want to last does.
