Finding the Winning Edge by Bill Walsh
Finding the Winning Edge by Bill Walsh
"But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing." -- James 1:4 (NKJV)

This book cannot be too highly regarded for providing a valuable template for football coaches and showing how to thoroughly and effectively organize any complicated undertaking. Bill Walsh reveals a combination of intelligence, character, integrity, and attention to detail unequaled in my experience.

As much as I admired watching Bill Walsh coach the 49ers, I think the on-the-field results were never nearly as impressive as this book is in explaining the foundations for all of that success. Many people succeed for either the wrong reasons or due to… Read more

"But this is a people robbed and plundered; All of them are snared in holes, And they are hidden in prison houses; They are for prey, and no one delivers; For plunder, and no one says, 'Restore!'" -- Isaiah 42:22 (NKJV)

If you are like me, you've been reading translations of Harry Hole novels for some time. Those references to solving crime in Australia have probably both baffled and intrigued you. Well, you can find out what it was all about by reading The Bat, the first Harry Hole novel.

If you haven't been reading the Harry Hole books, then you have a great many treats ahead of you. I think you'll like the series best if you read the books chronologically by… Read more

"And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; and perseverance, character; and character, hope." -- Romans 5:3-4 (NKJV)

If you are a fan of the past novels in this series, don't miss this one! It has developments that will interest you.

Since I started reading mystery novels more years ago than I care to recall, I've always been drawn to difficult puzzles, fair clues, subtle misdirections, and the opportunity to "solve" the crime before the author reveals what has happened. In recent years I've noticed that some mystery novels have become more like novels and less like traditional mysteries. Such works have to… Read more

The first book that had a big influence on me was Gone with the Wind which I read when I was seven. I've read so many excellent books since then that it's hard to single out just a few. The book I spend the most time with is the Bible, reading it in many different translations. In the field of management, no one matches Peter Drucker. Almost everything that is written is derivative of his thinking. Shakespeare's plays are also a favorite place to roam. William Faulkner is my favorite American novelist. I prefer most of the books in the classic library to modern fiction.
