Blood Makes the Grass Grow Green: A Year in the De&hellip by Johnny Rico
I'm a patriot, folks, and I support our troops and the risks they take to keep us free; HOWEVER, I'm not BLINDLY loyal to anything, and I've been involved in bureaucracies of one sort or another long enough to know that wheresoever goes a chain of command, there be some f***ed up situations and scathing inefficiencies not far behind. Rico, with his self-deprecating humor, somewhat liberal lean, and witty vernacular, provides some searing insight into the fact that all is NOT fair in love and war. In fact, sometimes things are downright dull, insensible, and dangerous for all the WRONG reasons. Anyone who looks at this as an indictment of our troops is narrow minded. The characterizations of the major angelic personalities is just downright fun, and the dialogue between them is addicting, (as all wicked things often are.) On a personal note to Mr. Starr -… Read more
City of Bones (Mortal Instruments) by Cassandra Clare
2.0 out of 5 stars Not one shred of originality, January 7, 2012
I'm sorry because, as a writer who has received his share of scathing reviews on Amazon, I know how much they can hurt; nonetheless, I have seen every character, plot device, setting and story in this novel before. Take two parts Twilight, one part Demonata series, a pinch of Cirque du Freak, ANY "teen interest" novel from your local Barnes and Noble and you could put this hackneyed, pedestrian story together. I was given the trilogy as a gift, I read the first novel, I'll be giving them all away now.
