I've read quite a number of books written by through hikers of the Appalachian Trail, Pacific Crest Trail and others. Each has shared the hiker's unique experiences, given a look as to what is inside them and shared with us their overall adventures. To be honest, I have yet to read one of these books that I did not like. There are as many reasons for taking this journey as there are hikers and all are different. Folks come from different walks of life, are of different ages and each have their highs and lows as they travel. I love hiking. I would love to attempt my own through hike but much to my chagrin I find that now that I have the money and the time to attempt such a… Read more

I have to admit that I had my doubts about this book at first but since I have a grandson who will soon be leaving for Army basic training, I figured why not...it can't hurt. I must say that I was pleasantly surprised with the information I found in this book. (Yes, I did read the thing before I passed it on to him). It also interested me because of the fact that it will be 50 years this coming June that I entered basic training myself and I was sort of curious to see how things had changed and if so, how much. Now it must be remember by anyone reading this work who is planning to go through the process that each individuals experience in basic training, or boot camp will be a… Read more

This book has been around for quite some time now. I bought my copy back around 1971. There seems to be some confusion on this one now; a matter I have not yet been able to work out. The book being reviewed here is a 1969 edition. There are other editions of this work which was first published in 1967 and yet again in 1983. The edition being reviewed here has Clara May Hankins as one of the co-authors. Clara May Hankins is the Illustrator, not the author. The co-authors of this work and the other editions was Richard C. Murphy and William E. Meyer. Anyway... I realize that there have probably been hundreds of books published concerning tree care since this… Read more
