It's been years since I reviewed a cd but this one is really worth a five star rating.I have all Devon's cds,Honeytribe and Royal Southern Brotherhood and this ones the best. When I left home and Don't set me free are my favorite songs with Luther Dickinson playing slide guitar on the first song.Excellent cover of Stop draggin' my heart around with Samantha Fish.Highly reccomended!!!...Read more
I have all his albums and this one is the mellowest.A few rockin' blues numbers but most are mellow.Carl still has that soulful voice and the great guitar playing still reminds me of Albert King.
The covers are great too,he does the Allman Brother's Who to believe,Face's I know i'm losing you and Teddy Pendergrasse's Love T.K.O.Overall a great album.
I can't belive how bad this cd is.Thank God for Billy Branch, Carl Weathsby and Larry McCray, the only three songs worthy of a listen.Who decided that Robert Johnson Tribute songs should be done as a dance mix??This is a piece of trash....Read more
This cd is right up there with Live at the Bottom Line and Spittin' Fire.Southside plays the old ones like Hearts of stone and This time Baby's gone for good as well as the newer ones like No easy way down and Living with the blues. Also a great cover of Help me.
The band sounds great, guitar, keyboards, horns and Southside's great vocals.
Buy this before it's out of print.
I love Buddy Flett and The Bluebirds but this is the weakest of their three albums. The first two Buddy handled the vocals but on this one he only sings five songs.I'm sorry but i'm not crazy about Bruce and Kerry's singing.Skip this one and buy the other two or Buddy's Mississippi Sea....Read more
This is what I consider soul blues.Georgie sings like Jackie Payne or maybe even Mighty Sam McClain. The songs are great, mostly rockin' with a few slow blues ballads. All orginials,my favorites are Why cry & Don't ask me for no money. Also the band is tight,Billy Baltera plays a great blues guitar.
This cd can be bought new at [...] for $[..]
I really enjoyed this cd,I purchased it over a week ago and it hasn't left my car cd player.A few orginals,a few JR standards and some gems you never heard. The band is so tight with Jimmie Vaughan doing most of the guitar and Omar with most lead vocals.Lou Ann Barton adds her sexy voice to a few songs and even sings some of the lead on Good Lover.
With Kim Wilson and James Cotton on harmonica this album really rocks. If you like Texas blues don't miss this one.
Koko has never sounded better. This is the best cd since Queen of the blues.Five orginials,a couple of Willie Dixon's and a great cover of Magic Sam's All your love.
Her band is great and with Billy Branch on harp and a few with Steady Rollin' Bob Margolin on slide guitar they really cook. This is the best Chicago blues cd so far this year.
The cover reads gritty Chicago blues and southern fried soul.I couldn't agree more, this cd has everything.Great vocals, great instruments and killer harmonica.Jamming blues, soul ballads and slow burning blues.Checkout Mr. Campbell's blues,a tribute to the late great Little Milton with some lyics from his own songs. This is my far the best blues album of 2006....Read more
I can't believe I actually paid $35 for a single cd.I wasn't familar with Michael Burks when this cd was released but since I love both his other cd's and couldn't find this one at a regular price I took a chance.I'm so glad I did because this is the best of the three. No weak tracks, just good old fashion Chicago blues in the style of Albert King of course.Rockin' blues and great ballads.Get it,you won't be sorry....Read more
