As a math and physics major I want deeper theory and all proofs of every statement, formula or
assertion of any kind. However, I am not the target audience of this book; that audience consists of people who need to understand the computational aspects of calculus so that they
may solve word and modelling problems. This is why the title of the book is "Applied Calculus,
The book meets its goal admirably by not being dumbed down to "calculus made easy" or "calculus
made simple" nonsense. The explanations for the introduction of each topic are clear and not
too difficult to understand. The illustrative examples are detailed and annotated so that it
is… Read more

I am a math major who believes that Physics I and Calculus I should not be studied concurrently.
Physics is a difficult subject, despite those who would have you believe otherwise. Calculus is
the same. Every student should complete the first two semesters of Calculus and then begin a Calculus based Physics I course. With this mathematical foundation for Physics the student is in
a position to have a much easier time understanding Physics concepts at a much deeper level than
a Physics course where the mathematics level is Precalculus. I say this recognizing that I am
talking about two different target audiences. The Precalculus level Physics is fine for people… Read more
I have several books by these authors from College Algebra through Multivariable Calculus and
Linear Algebra. The presentation is very clear with many examples and always with the right
amount of rigor with regard to definitions and theory. The preparation for more advanced courses
is excellent. These authors know the mathematical maturity of their audience and do not try to
compete with Apostol and Courant who are meant only for students with exceptional ability.
You can buy any of their books suitable for your needs sight unseen as they all rate five stars.
