Erykah returns with a collection that, in this reviewer's opinion, is better than the first collection. The CD seems to flow seamlessly, which is what she intended. From '...& On', 'Kiss Me On My Neck', 'In Love With You', and the two personal favorites 'Orange Moon' and 'AD 2000', Erykah's really given what I would consider a very nice follow-up. Erykah had a lot to live up to with this CD, and early reviews have been tepid, but each listen to the CD seems to get better and better...and besides, we all know that Erykah Badu can take an ordinary song on a CD platter and turn it into something completely different live. I have been following Sade and Sweetback. This is a natural progression for the band, and the songs are timeless yet updated. I suspect most of the sonic sounds of this record have been culled by the Sweetback sessions, and for those who follow Stuart Matthewman, Maxwell and Santessa. Carl Thomas' 'Emotional' is a CD which will enable Bad Boy Records to reestablish itself as a solid label capable of capturing the ear of R&B/Hip Hop listeners. The leadoff single 'I Wish' is indicative of noncomplicated, flowing arrangements which remind me of R&B of yesteryear. He gets major points for referencing Sting in 'Emotional' and Stevie in 'Summer Rain'. He runs the gamut from a lover who's slacking ('You Ain't Right') to the aural treat 'Hey Now' which is possibly my favorite cut on the album. With more cuts like 'Giving You All My Love', 'My Valentine', and 'Supastar', Carl Thomas shows that he's going to be more than just a flash in the pan… Read more
