Digital Signal Processing: A Computer Science Pers&hellip by Jonathan Y. Stein
Published by John Wiley & Sons, this book is destined to become a technical classic. It was written in a kind-of light style, with humorous anecdotes mixed in. And, unlike most DSP books--aimed at graduate level electrical engineering students--it doesn't assume a knowledge of advanced calculus. In fact, it doesn't assume a background in computer science math, either (the author's got that covered in Appendix A: Whirlwind Exposition of Mathematics). In the introduction, Dr. Stein bills his book as the only signal processing book you'll ever need, and it is amazingly comprehensive.

It needs to be updated, though.
The Tiburon Peninsula (CA) (Images of America) by Branwell Fanning

This is a quality book. It was written and edited by an author thoroughly familiar with Tiburon's past and present; plus, he had access to photographs going back to the mid-1800's. Belvedere and Angel Island: two close-by islands connected to the peninsula by causeways. The total population exceeds 19,000, with about half residing… Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Haunting., November 6, 2001
This book starts out with a warrior in flight, whose thoughts, physical and emotional pain, and surroundings are described in a liesurely, almost poetic, detail. But, once the reader has been introduced to a nomadic tribe, the Kushans, and their leader (the warrior in flight), the book gradually picks up speed until the tribe's journeys across vast distances and expanses of time are sometimes covered in only a few pages. The narrative, however, does pay careful attention to the thoughts and motivations of two tribal leaders--the leader of the Kushans, and the leader of a sometimes rival tribe, the U-eches. Since these tribal leaders are obsessed with revenge, or with the survival of their… Read more
