My interests for reviewing are primarily in Christianity and the natural sciences (and, of course, the historical interaction between the two). My field of study in my college days was mathematics and my later conversion to the Christian faith has given me ample opportunity to see how those who are experts in either the sciences or theology somehow feel perfectly qualified to speak with authority on the other.
I have long made a study of the history of the Church and particularly the history of Christian worship and this precipitated my move into a liturgical tradition (Anglican, to be exact) and a patristic theology. The absurdity of endtimes apocalyptic scenarios and the banality of contemporary Evangelical worship sent me running for the door once I stumbled upon the early Church Fathers and discovered becoming a Christian did not require the suspension of either intellect or a sense of aesthetics.
The reviews I post on Christian materials are from my website Christian Book Reviews (http://www.christianbookreviews.net). All reviews I post are public domain so I thought I might share them here as well.
As for the 'real world', I work as an IT consultant and trainer with a specialty in network design and security. Maybe I'll start reviewing books on that as well!
I am happily married (20 years)and in July 2001 we had the wonderful experience of travelling to China and adopting a beutiful little girl (now five years old). I am also, for obvious reasons, an advocate of foreign adoption.
Well, so much for my life at the moment. Happy reading!
Although there was an undercurrent of mint taste, it was the combination of mocha and coffee that comes through most clearly in Martinson Joe's MintMMocha. It may not be an "everyday" coffe, but it makes for a nice treat around the holidays or an occasionally with dessert. The taste is a cross between hot chocolate and coffee with a hint of mint thrown in for good measure. A very nice treat!...Read more
If you spend a lot of time standing in the same place, the New Life Gel Pro mats may be the best present you ever bought your feet. You can feel the difference by just standing on it for a few minutes. I was rather skeptical that it would make that much of a difference but it is rejuvenates your legs just by standing on it a few minutes. Since putting it in front of the sink, there seems to be a rush to volunteer to clean any dirty dishes....Read more
While I love k-cup coffees, I have not been nearly as impressed with other products (such as teas or hot chocolate) in the single serve containers. Teas have been particularly troublesome and often come out just too weak. The Caza English Breakfast Tea seems to have nailed the problem down and this tasty tea is strong enough to make a good occasional substitute for a morning cup of joe. While not quite as good as brewing a pot of loose tea where you can fine tune it to your taste, this at least gets in the running....Read more
The Bissell Aeroswift 1009 is a lightweight and easily maneuverable vacuum that removes any need for bags and empties easily. It comes with a wide range of attachments and has an extended reach that makes it excellent for cleaning large areas such as a finished basement. Best of all, it is not nearly as noisy as most vacuums (although certainly not silent).
The one thing you will have to get used to is the top exhaust vent. You may want to take any piles of paper on a low coffee table and place them somewhere else (or weigh them down) when vacuuming in their in their vicinity. Otherwise you may find yourself chasing them down across the room. Still, given the excellent performance, that is a minor annoyance rather than a major flaw.
Having already reviewed two other versions of this product (Medium and Vienna Roast), I will note what I stated there about the overall concept of the packaging. Each packet comes sealed in its own separate plastic container. You merely peel the lid off and an inner container goes in the Keurig brewer. While it is a bit of an extra step, the freshness of the coffee cannot be rivaled by standard k-cup containers.
As for this particular brew, it is my favorite of the their coffee pods thus far. It is supposed to be a blend of light and dark coffees but the overall effect is one of rich flavor without being overpowering. The aroma is excellent, as is the flavor, and it is an amazingly smooth blend with little acidity. An excellent cup of coffee that would go wonderfully with a great dessert after dinner - and might be a dessert in itself.
Yes, this is an expensive product. But then again this is something that appeals to a specialty user. For those who do video or photo editing, the use of dual monitors is a necessity but one that takes up lots of desk space - particularly given the width of today's monitors. The 3M dual adjust Dual Monitor Arm (MA260MB) opens up the desk and allows for easy adjustment of the space according to your need at the moment. The arms are very strong and this is a product that is obviously built to last.
The one drawback is that the instructions are rather difficult to understand. You can easily end up using the wrong item at the wrong time in the wrong place because the instructions are less than clear. For those who have ended up confused, another reviewer made a video review (http://www.amazon.com/review/R12Y3LLB5O9QPK/ref=cm_cr_dp_title?ie=UTF8&ASIN=B009NSGO3M&nodeID=1064954) that explains it better than anyone could in print.
Normally I would dock them for the confusing instructions but the quality of this product is so high I am giving a free pass. For those who need dual monitor capability, this is a great option to maximize space and flexibility.
So what can go wrong with a toaster? Judging from some other reviews, apparently a lot. While not commenting on the issues they experienced, I had none of them save one minor annoyance that is common with many toasters. First the plusses: easy to use digital display, attractive finish, does not have a large profile, and ... oh yes, it toasts bread just fine (and bagels, waffles, etc.). The one annoyance mentioned earlier is that many toasters - including this one - do not consider that someone might want to take bread out of the toaster after it is finished. That is, they do not give enough "lift" to bring the bread comfortably above the slot to remove easily. Fortunately, I purchased some toaster tongs(http://www.amazon.com/J-K-Adams-2-Inch--8-Inch-Sugar/dp/B000IF8OH8/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1385024951)long ago so that's not really a major issue but I still dock it a star on principle....Read more
This review is for the "cat" version of the product. OK so this is not "fine jewelry" but don't expect that for this price. It's a cute necklace that any cat lover would like. It is attractive and generally good for the price. At least that is the case with the pendant itself. The one problem, as has been mentioned by other reviewers, is that the chain, while a good length (~18 inches), is very cheaply made and tends to knot easily and likely will break with regular use. The cheap chain gives it a notch down; the pendant is fine for the price point....Read more
I have already reviewed the Medium Roast version of this product and will note what I stated there about the overall concept of the packaging. Each packet comes sealed in its own separate plastic container. You merely peel the lid off and an inner container goes in the Keurig brewer. While it is a bit of an extra step, the freshness of the coffee cannot be rivaled by standard k-cup containers.
As for the brew itself, this is a good bold brew but it was not as much of a favorite for me as the medium roast. I should point out that I enjoy a bold brew now and then - and I have found this to be a good change-of-pace, but I am not a regular drinker of the strong end of the spectrum. That, of course, is a personal preference, so keep that in mind. If my tastes were different, it might be a five-star product. I still give it four as the freshness and the overall quality is excellent - it is just not my cup of tea ... er, cup of coffee.
The SKLZ Sport-Brella Mini-Chair provides an excellent child's counterpart to the outdoor folding chairs one can take to the beach, a picnic, or other event and comes with an umbrella to protect the little one from the sun on a hot day. Available in fuschia or neon green, it has a solid construction except perhaps with the umbrella attachment which feels a bit less so although we have had no issues to date. Most importantly, it gives the little ones their own seat at their own size and in a bright color (which they usually seem to like). It even comes with a cup holder as well as a matching carry bag for easy storage. At that age, there is also some reassurance that us grown-ups can't use it! A good product that makes both parents and children happy....Read more
