Simply put, if you enjoy discovering the stories behind the stories of history, you will love this book. I love architecture, love spelunking through history, and this book kept me digging into it night after night for a month straight. You've probably read many stories about the ups and downs, accomplishments and tragedies of the Vanderbilts, the Astors, Rockefellers, and such, but this combination of history, mystery, and upper class oddities is more interesting than any of those more famous names. Buy the book. Or if you can't, get to a library today. You won't want to miss this one.
It would be easy to dismiss this book as nothing more than a promo piece for an international consulting firm that isn't even particularly known for brand consulting. Especially given the budgets that such a brand has to work with. After all, the vast majority of brands in the world -- b2b or any other kind -- simply do not have the budgets to implement such thorough and sweeping branding exercises, let alone the time or staff.
That said, as an advertising and branding professional who has had to explain many, many times to clients exactly why branding has value to companies in a broad range of market positions, I did find this book offers a lot of productive examples to draw… Read more
I have to say that I didn't use Sandalwood shaving cream much until I discovered The Art of Shaving product line. Once I used theirs, I was hooked. Unfortunately, it was also over $20 for a fairly small amount. I tried a few other alternatives that promoted themselves as being Sandalwood scented, but none smelled as good or had that classic texture. Then I tried Taylor of Old Bond Street, and love it. I also love that it's priced 30% less for the same amount as The Art of Shaving's shaving bowl, plus the Taylor product is AT LEAST as good and maybe better.
