Ship. Breaker. Not really sure just from that title what the book would have been about but with a synopsis like this it's hard to think it would fail:
"In America's Gulf Coast region, where grounded oil tankers are being broken down for parts, Nailer, a teenage boy, works the light crew, scavenging for copper wiring just to make quota--and hopefully live to see another day. MISTWOOD by Leah Cypess is a wonderfully intriguing story of a girl, Isabel, who has been claimed by a prince- soon to be King, claiming she's a powerful Shifter who's now bound to protect him. Problem is Isabel can't remember anything much less her duty or powers.
As MISTWOOD unfold we learn a lot about Isabel and her inner turmoil, and we learn to love her tough character, but although the story is appealing and interesting the story did feel a bit flat. And I'll tell you why: world-building. It is a key ingredient in any story and with fantasy that heavily relies on this ingredient many wonderful stories just fall a bit short. Alexendra Bracken's debut, BRIGHTLY WOVEN, is a high fantasy adventure filled with mystery, love, romance, and danger. It has the perfect blend of mysterious boy meets fascinating, small town girl and these unseemingly opposite characters are on the run from a mean and powerful wizard that seeks to cause some serious damage.Not only to our hero and heroine but well, to a lot more people! But not all is as at it seems --Syd and North learn new things about themselves and eachother but the magic happens as they discover these dangerous and heartbreaking secrets that make this book so wonderful and unexpected.
