My wife and I just finished watching season one and I really enjoyed this show. Every episode was excellent. Don't let the vampire thing worry you. It's a neat take on vampires and also includes a bit of romance which will keep the ladies happy. My one complaint is that I really wish they would have continued the show for a second season because after watching season one, you'll be wanting more.

Cloverfield brought a neat perspective on a monster flick, in more ways than one. The hand held camera work was pretty hard to watch at first. Mainly, the first character using the camera was just really bad at it and shot a lot of random things like feet. Much like you would expect to see from some of your friends videos ;) All of the bad camera was intentional. It does get better but still maintains the very hand held sensation. One of my friend's wife really didn't like the cameras throughout the movie. However, the cinematography didn't bother me much, must be from all my years playing first person shooters.

The Book of Secrets closely follows the successful pattern of the first movie--adventurous, semi-historic treasure hunting. While some have criticized the movie from not being drastically different than the first offering, I did not view this as a problem. I'm not sure what the viewers with this particular criticism were expecting; I mean the movie is a sequel with the same characters, etc. In my mind you can't veer too far from the original premise or you won't have a logical sequel.
