James is a computer consultant (read: geek for hire) servicing Southern Utah and Nevada. He loves to read science fiction, fantasy, and anything that has a good, interesting, and original story line.
As a computer geek that needs to keep his skills updated he also reads many computer books. His specialties and interest lie in networking, programming, and database administration.
James is also an avid member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and often reads literature from its members, non-fiction and fiction alike.
James loves to be active and after blowing out his knees has put on a couple of pounds, so a few diet books have been picked up. Currently, James is losing weight following the advice of Dr. Phil, the South Beach Diet, and The Abs Diet.
James' dream is to one day write a book of his own and hopes that some day they can be reviewed by the users at Amazon.com (anything over 1 star would be appreciated).
James has lived in Utah, Virginia, Germany, Arizona, Italy, back to Utah, Nevada, then back to Utah again (can't get away!!!). He received his Associates Degree in Business Management from Utah Valley State College in Orem, Utah and received his Bachelor's Degree in Business Management: Management of Information Systems from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Since graduating James has enjoyed reading a lot of fantasy and science fiction since he was horribly deprived during his college years.
Polk really needs to put this next to something so I have a better idea of the scale. All I saw was Bookshelf Speaker and thought this would be nice on my desk.
And then this HUGE box arrives.
Well, huge may be relative, but I was expecting something smaller. I should have read the details better to realize these are over a foot in size, and very deep. Long story short, these ended up on the floor.
After I got it amped up through my computer, I turned them on. HO! LEE!! CRAP!!!! These sound amazing! Everything coming from them sounds like golden rainbows of unicorn-blood fueled awesomeness!! Okay, I don't know what that means, but I don't think words can describe how fantastic these speakers sound, you really need to hear them for yourself.
Keep in mind, I'm using them for computer speakers, not home theater (I use something even bigger for that). For computer speakers, these blow my old Creative Labs 5.1 channel + sub out of the water. Not only loud, but crystal clear, too. No distortions that you may get from some speakers.
Polk has quite a speaker here. Be prepared to be amazed!! They far exceeded my expectations, in both size and quality.
Installed in a snap, it seems to be gentle on my car, the bikes are slamming into the back or anything, and feels really sturdy. Not much else to say on this, it does what it is supposed to do and I look forward to using it for years to come. Hopefully, at over $100, I can get my money's worth out of it....Read more
I've had previous versions, it is nice to stay up to date, especially when this costs as much as a six month basic membership at Ancestry, it just means keeping up to date while keeping the same services.
I've got two accounts, so it was nice to upgrade both of them, though I only got 3 months out of the other version because I didn't get that one in Platinum. This version also has some photo editing the other one didn't have, so... bonus. If you plan on doing a lot of work over the next six months and want to utilize Ancestry.com, this basically becomes free. If you aren't as committed, maybe consider the non-Platinum edition.
I wanted something in my office with the Dodger's logo on it, and this is nice enough to tell the time and temperature as well. It feels pretty flimsy, the picture of the Dodger's logo has a terrible glare from my lights, and it doesn't have anything to make hanging it on a wall easy (a tab from a soda can and some tape did the trick).
It plays music, too. I didn't hear anything that sounded baseball-related. The music doesn't sound all that good. I only discovered this while trying to fix the time and hitting one of the wrong buttons.
Oh, yeah, that reminds me. Before picking this up, you may want to pick up a degree in engineering so you can figure out how to program the darn thing!! They sure didn't want to make THAT easy.
That battery has held out for the last month, but I fear having to go through the entire process of setting it up again when the batteries die. I'm not holding out much hope they've thought about this.
It's okay, it looks nice (minus the glare), and it accomplishes my goal of having something Dodgeristic in my office to enrage my Giant's-fan friends. For $16, I was hoping for a bit more. :(
It took a while to get this on my wall, but it looks great!! The blue is very striking and it clinks to the wall very well. Just set aside some time to get it on the wall properly because as you pull the back off, the letters oftentimes want to follow.Once it is up, be ready for everybody to comment on how well it looks. It sure helps separate the Whovians from the Timelord-Ignorant folk....Read more
We have the big one that is shaped like the pig, but this is great for smaller jobs and for getting in tighter areas. We had issues in our tub, for example, because we couldn't get into certain notches with the larger one, and it ended up leaving a black smudge. This, however, got in there no problem. While we use the pig-shaped one more often, it is nice to have this around for some of these other jobs....Read more
It applied with no problems to my MBP and I love it to pieces, but they folded it up multiple times when they shipped it. One of the folds ended up on the knuckles of his hand, and now it won't lie flat, so I always have to be careful with it whenever I take it in or out of my bag. Otherwise, the color is phenomenal and really stands out. Other than the folding, this came in looking a lot better than I thought it would....Read more
I had the Hero Black Edition, and my biggest complaint was the battery. SO MUCH BETTER!!! My battery life is improved a lot. The camera quality is the same, but it seems to handle light a lot better now when I mount it in my car for time-lapse driving videos. And it is smaller to boot. I wish I had just waited for this one to begin with. A great little camera with a much needed tweak in the battery life compartment....Read more
I just reinstalled my computer OS replacing nothing except my old standard SATA with this drive. And, it is noticeably faster. Not quite as fast as an SSD drive, but a lot faster than a standard hard drive. Also, not as cheap as a standard SATA drive, but a lot cheaper than an SSD drive a fraction of this size (2 TB). This is a great option when you need something faster than a hard drive but don't want to spend as much as an SSD drive or lose the size advantage.
I do boot pretty close to machines I have SSD's in. One thing I noticed immediately over my old drive is that I run several virtual machines on my computer and now they seem to run MUCH smoother.
So, it's a great bang for the buck! Speed and size for a reasonable price, and made by Seagate, a trusted industry leader. I'm very happy with this drive.
