In unfortunately typical MacArthur fashion, the tone of "How to Get the Most from God's Word" is often abrasive, condescending, and sarcastic. The overall message of the book is that the Bible is good and should be read--which I agree with. But there are just so many faults with his presentation that the good things about it were crowded out by the negative. Starting with the good, he offers many helpful insights and recommendations about the Christian life--particularly in Part Two (Chapters 10, 11, 13).
