I am the author of two books, THE OTHER SIDE OF WHAT and STEALING WISHES, both available here on Amazon in paperback or downloadable to your Amazon Kindle Ereader. Dervish by James Mirarchi
Dervish by James Mirarchi
4.0 out of 5 stars Dervish, November 8, 2009
At only 76 pages, Dervish by James Mirarchi was a quick read but is a prime example - I've pointed out many here at LLBR - of an author embracing self publishing to truly capture his creativity. The book sells itself as a collection of poetry, but actually opens with a brief one act play and ends with a short story, reminding me of the editions of the "Concise Book of Literature" from college English courses, still adorning my bookshelf today because they contain some of my favorite short stories and poetry.

The one act play takes place in a beauty salon and is called "MakeUp." It's a conversation between a beautician named Bridget and an older customer of hers named… Read more
The Electric Adventures of Alvin, Part Two by Adam Schakowski
The Electric Adventures of Alvin, Part Two is actually a "real time" blog novel. And no, it's not a sequel. Not a "real" sequel anyway. But the real author behind the idea is Kevin McDermott. Confused? Don't be!
This is a book about a book, and the the author in the book is Adam Schakowski. Adam wrote a book called The Electric Adventures of Alvin. The very beginning of the book is Adam addressing the reader directly, and he introduces himself like this...

"If you're reading this, you already know who I am. That is, you know who I've said I am. My real name isn't Alvin, of course, but I don't consider that to have been a lie. You knew it was a pseudonym, right? I… Read more
The Little Giant of Aberdeen County by Tiffany Baker
I never thought I'd find another book (and so soon) that could rank up there with Diane Setterfield's The Thirteenth Tale, but Tiffany Baker can add her book to that list. I thoroughly enjoy a nice slow engrossing read with lots of detail and a thorough look into the lives of its characters. If you strip away the layers of characterization, you'll probably find yourself left with just a few sentences that could sum up the entire book. But that's not how this book is meant to be read. It's a character study and I believe Baker wanted you to fall in love with the inhabitants of Aberdeen County. She obviously spent a lot of time and effort growing them into this story which I think is… Read more
