In my own words
I grew up in the South but moved to Chicago in 1980 for graduate school. I started reviewing books for a club newsletter and then over the following ten years that reviewing very slowly evolved into paid free-lancing and finally into a free-lance writing career. (Even now, most of the work I do is reviewing, and most of my reviews are of books, though I also write feature pieces and review films, restaurants, plays--Chicago has quite an active theater scene).

Although I've only seen the first third of the 13-episode commitment, SWINGTOWN is facing up to be one of the freshest shows in years.
