Out of the box, Backlight DID NOT come on when power turned on (as per manual). Computer DID recognize the device when USB dongle was inserted into the computer, but K/B DID NOT function. The IR Remote, however, appeared to work after programming it. The USB cable became VERY HOT when I plugged it into the device/computer. Troubleshot, then troubleshot several more times with no success. So, I had to RETURN it, which was painless, as it was shipped by Amazon and not the vendor. I have REORDERED it because I like this product. If it would work, it will be great for what I want to use it.
I will try to process an update to this post, after I get the next one.

This part slides in and "clicks" into the mini hot shoe of my Canon HF100 and HFS21.... it has a little spring-loaded nipple which locks it into place....built sturdy although the base is made out of plastic so you don't want to overload it, but it will, at least, hold a mic, and/or light....try to get if for less than 10 bucks. I've seen some earlier models for over 30 bucks....REMEMBER: this shoe is NOT HOT. Most important...I'm happy with it.

I rated this procuct only 4-stars because of the price. Worth about five bucks, not ten.....I wear a size 10-1/2 shoe and I got a large, but a medium would have fit better. Even worn with thick socks, the large is too large for me..... They seem flimsy, but I've only had them a month and I do not wear them constantly, so I can't say how they'll stand up over time. For warmth, on a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being toasty, I'd give them a 7+.
