I've been an Amazon Associate for years, but that's not why I'm such an advocate for their services. Rather, I became an associate because Amazon is a good company that I can recommend with confidence.

I don't often recommend specific products, since I know nothing about a random web-surfer's individual wants and needs. When I buy something, I'm far more interested in neutral third-party reviews than self-serving sales hype and I like to believe that my customers are savvy enough to feel the same way.

One problem Amazon has -- and it's really inevitable in such a large site -- is that it can often be hard to find what you're looking for. I spend a lot of time scouring the forgotten "backwaters" of Amazon to make lesser-known features more accessible.

I've taken a big hit lately due to Google's arbitrary "thin affiliate" dictum, but I continue to build a following of people who just want a little help navigating the bewildering diversity of the Amazon site, and not a lot of sales pressure.
