THIS IS MY PERSONAL OPINION
I purchased mine directly from monster cable's outlet store on their website. They cost $200 came with leather pouch, cloth, headphones, and cord. I have built a custom foam padded wooden box that now houses six sets of headphones, so the box is no big deal. AKG 702, AT M50, Shure 440, ah-d5000, hd650.
Sturdy- definately Diggging he metal vibe off these. Amazing cord(as per usual from monster, how do you think monster CABLE started)
Style-you can't wear too many headphones as a statement but these walk that fine line. I don't mind riding the train with them.
Bass- these cans are definately colored, but that is why i bought them, I needed something for my r&b and club music, Sometime the doctor knows whats best. These are for my digital music collection, not my vinyl which i am thinking would be much to warm.
Ambient Noise-For a passive headphone they block out much of the ambient noise in my house, not so much the train, but it quiets the train to backround noise even at low volume levels.
Middle of the Road:
Soundstage- since they are a closed back can, you need to understand that their soundstage isn't as big or open as other cans. But it's not horrible but it's not the best. But i doubt you should be considering this set if you want an amazing stage. The cans however do not fatigue my ear drums, lots of bass(which again is what i wanted) and yet i can listen to them for hours at a very reasonable level.
Sound:The lows are great but the mids and highs do not blow me away, even when i opened them up out of my dac and amp. I have not allowed burn in time and i doubt it will do much to help that range. The bass is super tight, low and clean. Props for this since i have been looking for a good ol' fashioned bass head phone and now i found them. The bass is well balanced and although you never forget it is there you certainly hear everything else accordingly.
Price-$400 thats why i went with refurbed for half the price and i can't tell the difference besides no box and paper work. Honestly for my money i got what i wanted and am enjoying them. but asking 400 for a new set....they better blow my pants off and impress my parents during the holidays.
Comfort-I read a few revies on these stating the comfort factor, it is true. A bit tight, and i wear howard light ear protectors at work. I am assuming one's dome will get used to it after a while, but like others have said please make a little more comfy.
Over all- this is what i was looking for and i am beyond pleased with there overall performance. Definately a keeper, but make sure to shop around and know that you like the sound!!
I upgraded to the bigger wire to reduce the strain on my receiver. I had to buy wire connectors because the ends of these things are quite oversized, so after getting everything i needed from ebay and radio shack, my blu rays never sounded so good!
A lot of wire forr a little bit of cash, ohh its quality too, don't be fooled by monster tails of monster cables!!
If you do have thirsty headphones, i would just buck up and get the e7, sounds better and you can use it as a dac so you can bypass your sound card off your computer. And the battery on that beast lasts 80 Hours?! I bought this and i used it once, put it back in the box, and have intent to sell it....Read more
It looked nifty so i bought it! Yet I ended up using this at my business, and i went and bought a 5 dollar one from jewel because the rubber part was flicking metal shards and screen cuttings more than it was cleaning them up. A plus is that it does clean a wet mess pretty darn well, all in all a great product for wet messes, but only for wet messes....Read more
A great little amp for driving thirsty headphones from my computer, the gain is tight enough. I use with the e7 got a combo pack, brand new for 179.99 on ebay! I honestly Couldn't be happier, yet after rediscovering my vinyl(and some of my buddies, well mostly theirs) I realized about three months after having this that it would have been a perfect product had it had a phono imput......Read more
