Although I love all types of music, my favorite is hip-hop nowadays. To this day, I consider myself a hip-hop aficionado, and own over 700 rap cassettes, about 1200 rap CDs, and about 200 hip-hop records.

Although I love all types of music, my favorite is hip-hop nowadays. To this day, I consider myself a hip-hop aficionado, and own over 700 rap cassettes, about 1200 rap CDs, and about 200 hip-hop records.
My first passion as a child was grunge/metal (Soundgarden/Metallica), and punk revival (Green Day). Then for several years I was infatuated with classic/progressive rock which led me through my teen years into my 20s. Otherwise, I'm also pretty big on Hard Bop Jazz, and many other types of Jazz. I own over 40 Miles Davis records. Bob Dylan would also have to be one of my absolute favorites. As far as newer rock bands...I must say that WEEN is the greatest band of all time...and I've thought so for many years. Still the greatest Live show I've ever seen in my life (First Avenue, Minneapolis, MN, 7/2003).
I work as a graphic designer, laying out books, catalogs, sell sheets, corporate identity pieces...etc. I've been in the biz for nearly 9 years now. If you have some feedback for me, good or bad, send it to: alanp0099@yahoo.com
"What's Your Jumpoff?" is the debut album from indy label 58th Street Entertainment (or simply 58 ENT) out of south side Minneapolis. The duo consists of B Bev on the mic and Ben Blanco (also founder of 58 ENT) behind the boards. The first thing you will find from sampling the album, is that the album sounds "low budget" for lack of a better term. True, the album does lack certain engineering/mastering qualities. It's not terrible, but noticeable. However, when you move onto the actual material, you will find these guys have some substantial skills to bring to the game.
It's clear that B Bev & Ben Blanco have a clear cut love for hip-hop, and it comes through in their soulful… Read more
Kanser's 6th full-length release drastically changes the formula from all their preceding work. Mesh - the rapper, producer, and much of the creative vision behind the groups previous records - is no longer with the southside Minneapolis trio. The remaining members, New MC, Unicus, & DJ Elusive, teamed up with some of the best producers around the Twin Cities to make their new sound shine brighter than ever before. While Mesh's past production was a little darker and colder, the new formula features a much warmer soulful soundscape - much of it being driven by guitar and other live instrumentation.
I must say I love the new formula, and it really made their mic work standout… Read more
I Self Devine is the epitome of an all too much ignored hip-hop veteran. The Los Angeles native immersed himself into the hip-hop scene as a rapper and graffiti artist at the tender age of 13 in 1985. After encountering gang-related problems, I Self was incarcerated in 1987 for one year. After some time of living on the street, his mother moved them both to Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1989, where I Self then began his real journey into hip-hop. In 1991-92, the Micranots (I Self + DJ Kool Akiem) were formed after I Self spent a second sum of time in jail. Upon I Self's return, the duo recorded 6 full-length albums before recording their 7th and final album for Rhymesayers Entertainment in… Read more

Below is a critical look at some of the best hip-hop albums to drop from 1984-1986. I figured that since I didn't have quite a enough material from these years to constitute a full Listmania, I'd combine them. The list still runs in order of most favorite, but I will label each with their&hellip Read more
