Best Introductory Textbook on the Market
on December 9, 2011
I've reviewed several introductory American government textbooks and Am Gov is the best. It's similar to a giant magazine (ie, no hard cover) which makes it very portable and accessible. I use it in my introductory courses which are mostly populated by freshmen. However, I also recommend it to my graduate students who need to reacquaint themselves with the basic tenets and structures of American government. I've also recommended it to parents who home school their teenage children. The textbook is very visual: lots of graphs, charts and pictures that illustrate points made in the text. Unlike other texts that consist of page upon page of uninterrupted text, Am Gov is easily digestible. It includes highlighted terms & definitions, case studies, historical anecdotes, and discussion questions for each chapter. This book is definitely worth checking out.
