How do international students develop the appropriate vocabulary, register, and practice for writing their research projects in English? What reading and writing strategies and techniques do ESL students need to master to successfully write summaries, create annotated bibliographies, and convey their ideas to their academic peers and professors?

This commentary to the second edition of the acclaimed Academic Writing for Graduate Students: Essential Tasks and Skills answers these vital questions. A concise summary opens each unit before revealing the task answers. Mirroring the popular ESL book's structure, the reader can
quickly determine the essential teaching point of each task.

This commentary dramatically enhances the core text, giving both the novice and experienced writing instructor practical tips on complicated material. The authors acknowledge disagreements between disciplines, provide lively responses, and maintain a nuanced, fair tone. They also freely admit where they have responded to, or incorporated, criticisms of the first edition. Naturally, ambitious and curious graduate students can benefit from this thin instructor's guide as well.

In short, this excellent primer illuminates the definitive guide to academic writing for international students.

Be aware that this is a commentary version. So tricky, because even if you type the whole title "academic writing for graduate students" for search, it shows commentary version instead of the main text.

I love this book because it has given me the basic writing skills I need to write a research paper. I am about to start my master's degree in the U.S.A. and this book has been very helpful. This book is easy to read and has lots of exercises.

This book is a wonderful companion for graduate students and will serve as a good reference material for any else who will write for the academia. It is quite comprehensive in dealing with several writing cases and will be useful throughout one's career. Is worth the price you pay. In short, if you plan to write, buy this book and read it.

Really improve the way you write, without to much hassle or arid grammar explanations. There are a lot of examples and also bad examples - and how they should be improved. It teaches you how to use online tools in order to improve your writing, without "copy and pasting"!

As told by my instructor, and used by myself, I found this book EXTREMELY useful and constructive. Both undergrads and graduate will discover the effectiveness and inside knowledge of how to better write English academically. So, strongly recommend to those non-English and English native students.

This is such a useful and handy book - one that I wish I had come across it earlier during my graduate studies years. Although the title is for graduate students, I'd strongly recommend it to undergraduates (and my daughter too in her undergraduate) who will be preparing for final thesis or final project report.

Seller should make it clear that it is a commentary book, it is too easy for people make a mistake. And the cover of the commentary one is way to similar to the real one that I want to buy. I hope others will buy the right one.

It's good when you have to learn and practice on your own. Don't buy it if you have someone to go over with you around 90% of all the question. The book gives you somethings to compare against or to test for your understanding of the topic. Yet, it fails to address these questions fully as part of some question are left out. And there is not much explanation or argument available for many questions. So you have to blindly accept the answer. I ordered it by mistake - didn't see the word "commentary". Since I study and ready it for understanding, it is good book to have. Without it, I have no answer for some questions. So having the book becomes much better than nothing.
