Mark Gottdiener and Ray Hutchison's fourth updated edition of The New Urban Sociology has been revised and updated to provide college-level students with a fine integrated reader on race, class, gender, culture and politics in urban society. It discusses how these relationships influence behavior, how individual choice can affect spatial arrangements, and expands coverage of world urban centers to focus on new patterns of global interactions.

I purchased this book as a textbook for a sociology class, but it is a good read even if you are not taking a class. It explains what makes cities work and what doesn't in light of the problems in today's urban and suburban areas.

I liked it overall, the book was in tact and very few highlighted/ written areas. Quite satisfied with the product.

I had this book for a course and while it was interesting the index leaves much to be desired

I received this book a couple of days ago, and for the price it looks brand new! There was no wear and tear like I initially thought, and no highlighted material or writing inside. I'm glad I chose to buy from amazon or else I could have spent twice as much at my college bookstore for the same condition. This book will definitely be helpful for my class since its online.

I only gave it 1 star because I bought it for a class and never read it. Some of the people in the class said it was good, so I'll just go with that.

Wow, where do I even begin? It's a good thing that urban sociology is a passion of mine because if it wasn't before this book, it sure the hell wouldn't have been after it. There is no flow in this book - the chapters jump all over the place and the writing style is D-R-Y (which means way boring). Perhaps the authors should bite Kunstler's style - he might be inflammatory, but he is never boring in his presentation.
