Considering that these cost roughly the same as buying the TPB counterparts - it is well worth it to get the deluxe editions, as the bindings are much much better. Many of the TPBs that I have had are coming loose on the front pages - and it is not from mishandling them.

Anyway, I personally love the series, the covers are AMAZING, and the artwork (of the actual "book" portion) is quite good as well (reminds me of a more refined style of classic comics). The first few series are really good and do a good job of drawing you in to the world that he has created.

As someone has pointed out, if you are considering buying this you already know about the story and what not. Let alone you're looking at the second book in the deluxe series, so this is a straight product review. But if I had to give my two cents on the story and everything, it's wonderful. It's has everything for both men and women to enjoy with a great sense of atmosphere for both the child at heart and for those looking for something a bit mature.

The quality of the book is amazing. It has a great spine and tight binding that keeps each page in check. One of the many reasons I bought this was because my copy of the second book "Animal Farm" was falling apart because the glue was coming off and also...because I bought it at Books-A-Million...

This edition collects issues #11-18, the complete third book "Storybook Love;" the short story "A Wolf in the Fold", which can found in first book "Legends in Exile;" and also "The Last Castle" one-shot, which is found in fourth book "March of the Wooden Soldiers." ("The Last Castle" is listed as a graphic novel on the back of the cover but it can still be considered a one-shot and is canon.) The story is printed beautifully on glossy paper and giving the colors a brighter look than what can be found on the newspaper style trades. Under the dust-jacket is just a textless reprint of the cover. The only real extras you get are a few sketches from each of the artist who worked n the comics.

All in all, this gets a solid 5 out of 5. My only problem with this is that we have to wait so long for a new edition to come out. Yes, it looks great on the shelves and can handle the wear and tear of everyday life; but in the end, for a series to have well over 15 books to its name you only have "technically" book 1-4, and that's even if you pick up the third deluxe book, that starts to become tiresome. But I have hope, and maybe with sales picking up Vertigo will start releasing more in the coming years.

I was originally introduced to Fables through the Play Station game The Wolf Among Us. I liked it so much that I wanted to read the comic. When I saw that there were special addition hard cover copies I jumped at the chance to get them. I always prefer hardcover books to paperback for two reasons. 1. They are far more durable, and 2. they just look cooler and more sophisticated. I absolutely love these books. The stories are amazing and the artwork is beautiful. There are funny moments and extremely dramatic moments in the stories that will keep readers hooked until the very end. I know I could not put this book down!

This is an absurdly creative graphic novel equal in calibre to the works of Alan Moore and Neil Gaiman. The oversize deluxe edition with gorgeous dust cover is a fabulous way of reading this sweeping epic of fable fantasy for mature audiences, especially if you are a first time reader like me. When you consider the price of comics these days, this is a high value way of collecting this series since each edition has close to 10 comics and can be found on Amazon at about 40% of MSRP (or around $16 each + shipping). The comics are printed on high quality paper and the print quality is superb. The binding is glued which is not a problem given the size of the publication; it is of course problematic for the larger DC omnibus or absolute editions. Sometimes the comic is printed a little too close to the binding making it difficult to read, but these occurrences are rare. This a much high value product than the DC archives series which retails for $49.95 or higher. My only real complaint is the use of multiple artists on the same fable character across this epic. This normally would not be a problem if the artwork were equal across artists and if there was little variation in how the characters are portrayed. Some artwork is brilliant and some downright crude. Finally some of the stories are trite and should have been omitted. But overall we can ignore these disappointments. I definitely will collect the entire series.

I bought the first three hardcover deluxe additions books of the series as a gift for my son. I did not read them, but I like the premise of the story.

the book binding is tight and the pages are semi-glossy with nice artwork.

The book was well-packaged and wrapped in non-stick cellophane so the paper cover would remain undamaged.

Fables is a series of graphic novels about characters from fairy tales who are kicked out of fairy-tale land and have to tough it out in the here and now of our world. I have heard that the deluxe books are created when 10 books of the original DC Comics are finished. Right now there are nine books in total.

We ordered the first three Fables Deluxe Edition books as a gift for our son. He has had the books a little over a week and has already purchased books 4-6 in the Deluxe Edition series

i am sure everybody who wants to buy this deluxe edition knows the stories, knows the comics was often nominated for eisner award.
thus i want to comment only on the book quality.
this is a beautiful oversized hardcover edition with dustjacket, the paper is kinda thin but glossy, the colors are vibrant and beautiful. you get foreword by author and some sketches as bonus. every chapter has an original cover. i wish every Vertigo book looked like this one.
the book is a very good choice for fans or new readers.

This series is keeping me coming back for more! It's fantasies made real! The artwork is fantastic and I love the humor and all the characters. I can never guess what will happen next and I love it. If you're into the darker side of fantasies or you want to see a realistic twist to your childhood tales, this series is for you! My only complaint is the binding. Some of the art is lost in the spine of the book. It's very minimal and doesn't ever impact anything important but it is still an imperfection. Recommended

I read the first one and immediately ordered the second. I now have the 3rd on being shipped out to me. I love this series! My first time reading them and I can't seem to put them down! Try it! It's a little explicit for the younger folk, so please don't buy this for you younguns.

One of my favorite "Vertigo" series and, within the Fables storyline, my favorite bit of fanciful tales mixing and matching the fables of yore. Romance, murder and intrigue set amongst the storybook characters of my youth, what's not to like?

This book is another great volume in the Fables series. I liked this book better than the first book and I would recommend this series to anyone who is interested in comics, but is not interested in the traditional superheroe themes.
