Great for high school or entry college class into psychology. Unfortunately, this was a requirement for my child psych degree. I wish it wasn't so juvenile and was more in depth. The material seems rather basic, a lot of common sense information that anyone working towards a degree in child development or psychology should already know. That being said, it has a nice layout and I do appreciate the definitions in the side margins.
At the time that my classes started, this book was only available in the hardcover edition at $130. $130 for a textbook. That's outlandish even for a college student like me. It's ridiculously overpriced. Secondly, the content is bad. Although all subject material is covered, there is so much excess information in the book that I seldom even bothered to read the chapters, as it took me too long to do so. In addition to this, the writing style is all over the place. I understand that there are different writers of this textbook, but it's hard to even find a paragraph that flows well. The nonchalant usage of figures of speech and borderline slang is baffling. I hated this book and I can't wait to sell it to get at least some of my money back. If you must buy it, make sure you go for the much more economically priced softcover edition.
