I have literally just arrived back from a MAG40 class, and bought my copy of this book while in Live Oak, FL. What impressed me about this book is how much really helpful information from the class was in this book. Another reviewer mentioned the case law dealing with the aftermath of a lethal force confrontation, and I agree it is excellent information. Mr. Ayoob is a respected expert witness and has been doing training in this field for a long time (over 33 years, I believe).

I will not plug the class (which was excellent, okay, I just did plug it, forgive me), but if you really want to carry and see how many options there are and how to evaluate the options, this is an excellent compilation from a man that knows what he is talking about, and he lives what he preaches regarding concealed carry. The reason I took the class was to cut to the chase regarding the rules of engagement for civilians, and part of that is having a game plan for being able to defend yourself. This book will present you with options that are not always as straightforward as just "getting a holster". You will see that there is no set solution for anyone, and depending on your needs, there are many options. I hope this is helpful to anyone just beginning to consider seriously concealed carry, and I think it gives people a great starting point.

This new edition is good. It contains some updated and additional information. I would definitely recommend it for someone thinking about concealed carry, especially the chapter dealing with case studies on the aftermath of having to use deadly force to defend themselves.
Otherwise, it is just OK. I have only been licensed a few months and I really didn't find much in the book that I didn't already know or could readily find elsewhere free.
Still, I appreciate Mr. Ayoob's dedication and effort in producing this book and will be sure to pass it on or recommend it to anyone considering CC.

I have purchased from Amazon a number of Ayoob's excellent books. They are all excellently written in his concise, "police officer" style but with the precise technical detail of a college professor and the colorful spice of a drinking buddy. If you ever take a gun out of your home, you owe it to yourself and your family to read this book and its message of responsible, tactically wise concealed carry. Thanks Mas !

Massad Ayoob is the expert in this field, so the information contained herein was informative and helpful. Unfortunately, the conversion to Kindle was poorly implemented, yielding a confusing jumbled mess. Often couldn't tell the difference between content, captions and sidebars. As a result, I would recommend you buy this in print, and not in ebook form. Caveat emptor.

Massad is one of the best. This book is a great addition even to the one that he wrote earlier. I already owned it and would recommend buying this one to supplement it even though a lot of the information is the same, the new is worth the price.

even the most savvy of firearms owners particularly handgun owners that are considering carry for self defense could learn a thing or two from this. Very good supplement to go with taking firearm safety courses and also revealing holsters not so heavily advertised.

I was looking for a no non-sense book on concealed carry. This is it. Good information that every CHL carrier should know.

Some here have stated the book has too much vendor plugging / advertising. I don't agree. Massad is simply stating what has worked for him and I appreciated that aspect. I want to hear it from the user with experience and I believe even his criticizers will agree he has experience. 20 years ago when I first started shooting in competition he was well known.

Recently I dug out all my pistols and started rearming. After receiving my CCW permit I thought it wise to brush up on any new developments in this discipline. I do mean DISCIPLINE! He has all the right things to consider in this book and many I had never even considered as I only was involved from a competitive aspect and open carried were appropriate.

CCW is NOT walking in the woods with your 44 mag bear pistol strapped to your side. It is something you need to know some things about before you do it. I sincerely wish we all would carry and care for each other as it is our right and our responsibility.

Assad is full of himself for good reason and that is to promote safe and secure carry for those that wish to learn. And this book is a good starting place. Being used to safe firearm handling the book offered little new information for me but the wealth of information about the other aspects that I had little experience with like concealment products of which some are ridiculous to exceptional was useful for me at least.

I have spent a ridiculous amount of money trying to perfect CCW for myself that had I read this book first would have saved a large portion of that. There is no way you can avoid all the trial and error but this book will cut it down significantly by giving you some of his valuable perspective. Hence the advertising comments of some of the other reviewers.

Most valuable I found was the inside views of the court cases and how to handle yourself if the need arises so your defense is at least feasible. Don't count on being in court in your local county were you know the lay of the land but expect to be in that nasty gun free zone were the criminals expect an unarmed peasant to prey on. He has valuable information here that will keep the DA off your backside should you be in a place were you are at the mercy of the court.

He has answers to questions like why do you feel the need to carry a handgun? Because I can't carry a police officer. Or V.P. Joe's double barrel doesn't match my shoes. This book is good common sense with Massad's background as an expert witness to add more to it.

My only complaint is it was not long enough to have more information in it. I would have liked more information weapon retention something not taught for competition. Until I started concealed carry weapon retention was the price of a replacement. This book got me thinking in a different direction.

I highly recommend this book with every first time handgun purchase or for anyone thinking of securing their home with a firearm of any type. If someone comes to me and asks what I think they should buy first for self defense I point them at this book. Then offer to help them find a firearm that fits them and their needs.

Outstanding Writer, I am a retired army officer and found this book answered many questions I had about carry. I was surprised at the great depth and detail the Author went into. If you are going to carry for protection this book is a must.
It also goes to great lengths to explain for women the in and out of carry and the best equipment to use is suggested.
