This book is needed for my EMT course...what I love about it most is that theres a scratcher inside..once you scratch it you go to their website, use the code and if you have an mp3 player, you can download the audio which reads each chapter word by word!

IMHO the most comprehensive EMT manual out there. Excellent and well-illustrated book, combined with the website access code makes this an (almost) foolproof study guide for the National Registry EMT curriculum. After working with the book and using the websites interactive media I felt very confident about testing. And I passed the first time!

Fairly well written and a decent teaching tool. However I was not too impressed with some of the disjointed exercises. They seem to come too early in the book. The exercises should come after so students have some background to deal with the exercise better. However some people may have a different opinion. I think it could have been a little better. Other than that, it was pretty good.

If you want an all inclusive comprehensive text that covers all the material necessary to prepare you or your students to pass the NREMT exam without making it a master's level degree this is it! This book covers the required information for the New National EMS Education Standards while keeping the reading level below college level.

I picked this book up for my EMT class. Its just what I expected. The school was charging $125 for the soft cover, so picking this one up for below $80 was a steal, plus its a hardcover. The online modules help out a lot and the entire book includes good illustrations and tables for quick reference. A solid heavy duty text book.

BEWARE! The description says published April 2013! This is very misleading as the book's copyright is actually 2011. I was looking for the most up-to-date book out there and was tricked by this. All the other books honestly stated their dates as 2011. Books often come out with new Editions every few years to keep up with all the changes. I ordered from a Wa. store not 8 hrs. away and got my book a week later with an Amazon.Co.UK recipe! England, really? I live in Oregon and needed the book right away! I wrongly assumed a store that close to me would deliver quickly. So much for Amazon's "Daily Deals". The book was unwrapped and just thrown in the box with some paper on top. Clearly not new. (The other book I ordered from them was in an envelope in the mail and damp, won't order here again.) The book itself as a paperback is way too heavy and the cheap binding will not last. Get this as a hard cover, will double as a weapon. :-) My original 1977 Orange Book is literally only half the size of this. We've come a long way since then and it's gotten much more complex. I will read through and see how effectively it delivers but I'm not holding my breath!

Really comprehensive guide - covers everything. And I mean everything. Perfect for my EMT class.

Book came with a code for online access to quizzes, powerpoints and interactive demonstrations. Book also has lots of full-color pictures and diagrams.

Only downside is the book has 1566 pages and feels like it weighs 5 pounds.

Just finished this monster book and class. (Full disclosure---I am an MD--internist)
It seems comprehensive and thorough as a basic test for EMT-B. I agree with others on two points.
First, it doesnt have to be so wordy and long-winded.
Secondly, there several contradictions regarding "facts". For example, Chapter 30 on Environmental Emergencies states infants do have the ability to shiver until about 12-18 months, whereas in Chapter 32 in Peds Emergencies it says infants younger than 6 months lack the ability to shiver.
Another is Chapter 27 on Chest Injuries defining a flail chest as 3 or more ribs in 2 or more places on one page, then on the next page defining it as 2 or more in 2 or more. These may be minor but shows poor editing.
One last comment, I dont think the individual chapters were actually written by specialists in those fields, (respiratory, cardiovascular, hematology, etc...) and personally I think the facts and concepts would be more clear if those specialists had some input on each of the specific chapters.
The accompaning workbook also needs work...too much busy work (crossword puzzles...really ?), and not enough though provoking and concept reinforcement.
All in all, good book, but a little work and my 3 stars jump to 5.
