This book was really great -- esspecially for any MJ fan! This had many insights into his wardrobe and his style. It reveals many iconic items and reveals the story behind them, for example the arm band -- I won't reveal the real answer. Of the letters CTE during the History Period.... So many things I thought I knew, were confirmed or denied by this book and many things I assumed as well. It has loads of pictures and drawings, and also explains why the author had all the pictures and drawings. One of my favorites that I will reveal is about the importance of putting all the tour outfits in exact order, otherwise, half way through, by the time Beat it was on set...his pants had to be almost two inches smaller around the waist because by that time, he had already lost 5 pounds of water weight from performing!! No magic in pants falling down! ha ha - It also explains where many of the designs were influenced from like a movie...or historical figure. And also little tricks on the clothing to make it look perfect or move a certain way like his tie, but don't touch the shoes!!! Or innovative ideas like silver boots, or eccentric ideas of his Crown.

Dressing Michael Jackson is quite the coffee table book, so sumptious you just want to eat up each and every page. But what you don't expect are for the pages to sing with a beautifully told story that is as much about integrity and friendship and loyalty as it is about the iconic style of a brilliant artist and the key players behind the smoke and mirrors of fame. Intelligent and visceral, a yummy must-read; an elegant statement of literary design.

Michael Bush did it he talks about all of Michael's inconic styles and how they came about, I got the book this afternoon and even though I didn't feel good possibly the flu, I almost finished the book. He tells great stories about how Michael would give him a riddle or a book and say a few words are just say click and how he would interpret this as to what look Michael was looking for. I really liked this book because it takes you into Michael's artistic side of a true artist. Michael loved his clothes to look like pieces of art and Michael Bush shows you this. If you don't want to read any trash books but would like to read a masterpiece about a friendship and trust between Michael Jackson and his dresser, read his one, the pictures are magnificant and the book great.

This book is absolutely stunning. The book itself is gorgeous, big, heavy, classy covers. The photos inside are beautiful. Michael Bush obviously had great affection and respect for Michael. To be honest, Michael doesn't sound like he may have been the easiest person to work for, LOL, always striving, always wanting to top himself. So many interesting details (did you know Michael made himself a "bedazzled" glove as a youngster in the '60s)and there is a picture of the inside of the Thriller concert jacket that lights up showing all the wiring inside the jacket. Bush has some wonderful stories about his time with Michael, love the story about how particular Michael was with his Florsheim loafers! The last chapter deals with Michael's passing and it can't help but bring a tear to your eye. I cannot say enough about this book, I have alot of Michael books and this is probably one of the best.

To start this off, What can I honestly say about this book??
It literally took my breath away, the moment I received it, which was a bit sooner than I ever anticipated. As soon as I got it, I immediately started checking out the pages first, before even reading it, & WOW! WOW! WOW! That's a triple WOW right there. LOL :) The photographs were absolutely STUNNING! I especially loved the very front cover of the book, since it has Michael's ICONIC BAD Tour jacket, which happens to be one of my absolute faves!! I couldn't take my eyes off the amazing close ups/details of Michael's beautiful clothing/jackets, etc.
I do have to admit, there were some great parts in the book as well.
Hate to spoil it for everyone, but there was a section in the book that had me laughing like crazy, to which it was the part where Michael Jackson explained about why he wanted to rip his shirts once in a while, or cut it just a little bit, & the term he came up with was "cake" since he mentioned about his female fans wanting to "see some cake"(meaning his chest) & oh he was right about that one.
The next thing that I really liked in the book was when they talked about the four F's when it came to Michael's outfits! They are "FIT" "FUNCTION, "FUN" & "FIRST." I thought that was pretty neat & should also be pretty easy to remember when it comes to Michael's outfits!
Another part of the book that I really enjoyed was where they talked about the outfit for Michael's short film "Remember The Time" in which it was all Egyptian themed! As a youngster, I was always intrigued about Egypt & would watch things about it all from time to time. I still do once in a while, but not quite as much as I did back when I was young! Anyways, back to the subject! In regards to the "Remember The Time" short film, I was surprised that Yul Brynner was mentioned & the fact that Michael was inspired by a piece he wore for the amazing film "The Ten Commandments" which was called a "gorgerine." Pretty amazing if you ask me.
But anyways, enough about what my fave parts were in the entire book!
For me, it took only a few days to finish the book! I never thought it would be THAT good. I truly believe in my heart of hearts, that Michael Bush was a TRUE friend to Michael & cared about him very much. I truly feel that he wanted to do the absolute best for Michael, since he's truly a perfectionist & wanted everything to be perfect the way he wanted it. I also feel that he wanted to get the book done for all the fans, since that's what Michael Jackson originally wanted as well.
So, to those fans who don't have this book, You MUST get this it! It's truly a wonderful read & you will not be able to put it down! It's THAT amazing. I will continue to cherish it for years to come! This book is truly one of the best books about Michael, AT IT'S ABSOLUTE FINEST!!
THANK YOU SO MUCH MICHAEL BUSH FOR THIS WONDERFUL TREASURE/MASTERPIECE!!

Love, love, love this book! Only from one of Michael's closest friends and confidants could come such a fascinating tale of friendship, creativity and challenge. Don't want to spoil anything, but Michael, ever the prankster, brought Bush out on stage, in the darkness with the light on Michael, then, suddenly stepped aside leaving Bush bathing in the moonlight at which time Michael said something like "ladies and gentlemen, Michael Bush!". Cute tale. Beautiful pictures and stories behind Bush and Tompkins' costumes created just for Michael, including the incredibly hard work of these artisans in getting it all just right to please Michael's perfectionist nature.

This is one of those MJ books that fans just gotta have, believe me. Why, the pictures of the outfits alone are worth the book price, but the backstory behind each piece is the icing on the cake. Every time you watch a YT video or a DVD of Michael's performances, you are seeing Bush and Tompkins' creations. Michael would provide the design impetus for a particular outfit and challenge Bush and Tompkins to "make it happen". They never failed him and he was always (eventually, ha) appreciative.

The book itself has a very weak biding. After only one read-through (and mind you I'm very gentle on my books, as an avid collector) the binding has split. This is causing the pages to shift around and look like they may fall out. I would think for a book that has a list price of $45 would have a lot better quality.

When I first pulled this book out of the box I was a bit stunned by the sheer size of it, it's a coffee-table book. The slip cover has Michael's Badd Tour opener coat embossed on the front. Underneath the slip cover is what looks like a drawer pulled out of Michael Bush's workshop with little bits and baubles, tour buttons and all sorts of things that go into MJ's costumes. It's a nice little touch that makes the book eye catching to look at, with or without the cover.

Regarding the content, I learned so much I never knew. I never thought so much time and effort went into every little detail about Michael's clothes. Every page was fascinating. The full color pictures are pure eye candy. I found myself staring at the pictures and looking at every detail. I wont spoil the book for you but Bush reveals interesting tricks they used in the way they cut and fit Michael's clothes to function for him as a dancer. It even shows a famous rhinestone glove and rhinestone socks in progress.

Michael Bush is a good writer, and was obviously a very good friend to Michael. I love the funny little anecdotes on MJ's pranks and antics. I couldn't put it down once I started reading it. The passion both these men had for their work practically leaps off the page.

I've been eyeing this book for quite awhile, debating on whether or not to buy it. I'm so glad I did. It's a must read for fans, or even non-fans fascinated by costume. Read it, you wont regret it!

EDIT: I complained to Amazon about the damaged book and they approved a replacement right away (I'm expecting it tomorrow, actually.) Amazon was swift in handling the situation. Hopefully the next copy of this book does not have the same issue of the weak binding.

Quite an interesting look at the ideas behind's Michael choice of clothing and why he tried to achieve the looks. I haven't read this anywhere else. The author is very credible as he personally created the clothing for 25 years. Love this book. The only reason I give it four stars instead of five is that the physical book itself is not as high quality as I would have liked to see in a coffee table book. The pages don't lay perfectly flat and I'm not sure the binding is strong as it should be. It was manufactured in China.

This is a one of a kind book on Michael Jackson's costumes, apparel and accessories written with warmth, humour and great knowledge. It reminds everyone of all the great and good things associated with Michael, his deep creativity and passion for all life, as well as his larger than life visionary style. Beautifully photographed close ups of many iconic outfits and jackets, the opulent styles and rich colours shine through every page. It conveys the magic and mystery of Michael's image created by his loyal costume designers Michael Lee Bush and Dennis Tompkins over a 25 year period, explaining in great detail how ideas were brought to fruition and the deep thought processes of these three genius men. Michael was able to trust them implicitly to bring into being his most expressive and sometimes outrageous ideas! Bush, as Michael always called him comments that MJ thought "so far outside of the box, you'd need a plane ticket to fly back into it!"

This will appeal to all MJ fans and those passionate about costume construction. I use it as a wonderful reference book to inspire my own customised jackets and am constantly amazed at the diversity found here. Michael loved to keep people guessing as it meant they were paying attention... through his stunning stage performances, and his costumes reflect this too. His kingly regalia is described as Liberace Gone to War which is a fantastic image in itself! The one off pieces such as the Dinner Jacket are delightfully explained: Michael presented them with riddles to solve and this one was in the form of late night phone calls asking what every person in the world could identify with! They then had the seemingly impossible task of finding ways to attach cutlery to the jacket. Michael loved this as the clunking metal utensils made sounds like keys on a chain, while the light shone on the silverware and the whole thing was a special effect of its own. Bush conveys with such deep affection the annoying little habits and funny ways in which Michael asked for things and got them achieved.

I also have to admire the candid way in which Michael Bush describes the devastating time of Michael's death. It is truly heartbreaking in its honesty. I can wholeheartedly recommend this beautifully written book, such a riveting read.

I just love this book, and I can tell that Mr. Bush loved working with Michael. There was a great respect for each other.Michael drove Mr. Bush crazy with his little riddles about how he wanted some of his clothes created. I have many books on MJ and this is one of my favorites. He was even asked to prepare Mj for his funeral. God Bless You Mr. Bush!! Thank You for caring for such a beautiful person. RIP MJ.
