We needed some ice cream for the play food repertoire and looked at a number of different implementations -- wood a la Melissa and Doug, Fleece, cheesy plastic, and these sturdy yet mildly flexible rubber ones. Ultimately I left it up to my 3 year old daughter who sat and deliberated over them on the store floor ("I can only get one, right?).

Initially I leaned toward the wooden ice cream since I'm a fan of wood toys. But this was a good choice -- the ice cream looks realistic, has a pleasing texture, is nicely weighted, super durable (tossed all around), and richly colored (more so than the alternatives).

After the purchase we sat down in a pizza shop and took out the ice cream. Other small children there were standing on their seats vying for a look so we had a communal ice cream "tasting".

Note that the balls of ice cream are hollow -- like a shell -- so that they can be stacked in a realistic way.

This is a goody. this is good for color learning and pretend food play. Under each ice cream scoop is the color in bold black lettering. The quality is amazing, the icecream looks so realistic. the scoops have a nice weight and texture to it and it fits snuggly on the cone. And you get 2 cones. Its also great for stacking.... very cool. My kids love it !

This is an excellent toy. All parts are made of a heavy-duty soft rubber. Vibrant colors. Very realistic looking. Same can be said of the shape sorting cupcake sister product made by the same company. My two year old daughter and 4 y.o. son both love playing with this in their pretend kitchen.

In the land of pretend foods, this ice cream set ranks in the top tier - and then they've gone and made it educational, too. I have the original set (each cone is a solid color, not mottled with white as in the illustration), and kids love it. There hasn't been a tremendous deal of attention paid to the color names written inside, but they love stacking the colors, trying to invent pretty color patterns, playing ice cream shop and including the cone and ice cream shapes in their general play in all kinds of ways. The pieces are very well made. I love this toy.

My husband and I bought this for our niece and nephew who are age 2 yrs 8 months and 1 year four months. They love to play with this together. The older one will place the ice cream caps in a row for the younger one to stack. Then he claps his hands and says, "Again!" She un-stacks them and puts them in a row. They played this over and over together. My sister (their mother) tells me it is a great toy.

We own this and the cupcake shape sorter by the same maker. These are the best toys ever!! My 19 month old loves her ice cream set, and so do I. It's made of a durable rubbery plastic (kind of like the bouncy balls that come in the coin machines) and are sooo realistic-looking in texture, it's amazing. The "scoops" all have the name of the color inside them, and they fit really well on each other. You can play with this toy many ways. Some that we've done are: 1) find the color (I say the color, and she finds it and hands it to me, 2) stacking toy (either on the cones or not) 3) ice cream party (she's beginning imaginative play) 4) counting (1 scoop, 2 scoop, etc). This toy is easy to clean -- I just use hot water and air dry overnight. My daughter has learned not to teethe on her toys (she's cutting her last molars right now) but if you have a teether, might want to watch in case they shove the end of the "cone" into their mouth (circumference of the bottom of the "cone" is about 1-2 cm more than a quarter..but still)It doesn't seem like a teething child could rip off any part of this toy with his/her teeth, it's pretty thick and durable, but just in case, keep an eye on your little one. Overall, very satisfied with this product -- I'd buy it again for gifts!

This toy was at my daughter's language school when we registered she loved it. Since she rec'vd hers at home she plays with it alot. The only thing I would mention is that sometimes the cone colors don't stack well. It is a good learning tool for her.

3 yr old loves ice cream, so no shock she likes to play with this toy along with our ice cream scooper from home. Love colors written on them and the real-life size.

I bought this for my now 3 year old daughter two years ago to help her start learning her colors. The set is made of plastic, which is easy to clean and very durable. After two years of heavy play by both of my girls (ages 3 and 8) and the little girl I babysit (who is also 3) the ice cream still looks new and they love it not only because we can play together and work with our colors ("Can I please have some green ice cream) but it is great for food play. My only complaint would be that it's hard for little kids to be able to put the first scoop of ice cream on and off the cone, so I constantly have to do it for them. While this annoying, I'm kind of happy it is that way because there is no accidents where your ice cream falls off the cone. It fits very snugly.

I'm actually purchasing this for my 2 year old nephew this year for Christmas to help him with his colors.

Great toy that doesn't require batteries and can grow with a child for years!

My 2 year old loves his Smart Snacks Rainbow Color Cones by Learning Resources. This is a fun snack for all year around! This summer he used it in his sandbox with his color sand, made color cones, inspired by the tops of this products using the actual cones. These are not just a one-idea product. It's multi-use educational fun toy and really works with your child's imagination. These are a must have along with the shape cupcakes that this company offers. Great quality, great product!
