My puppy has had much better success tolerating and thriving on Science Diet compared with pricier "all natural" brands...you know...ingredients that people would also be happy to eat. But she is a dog, not a human and so if ground up chicken beaks are one of the fillers, but she is healthy and happy, I don't worry about it period. At the shelter where I got her they sell Science diet for half the price of what it is available elsewhere...gotta go get some more. Why, because my dog loves it and is healthy and happy and seeing is believing. Cheers!

We use this food for our small dogs (3) which are under eight pounds. Great for their digestive system and they love it.

This dog food is a very high quality dog food. I used to buy it at a discount store, but I get it at a better price and shipped thru Amazon.

My pup has been on this food since we brought him home 6 months ago. He is happy and healthy. Hill's has done more research than just about any other company out there. Also, don't get so hung up on the "chicken meal" aspect-- it is an efficient way to include chicken. Think about it-- how do these companies like Blue etc. actually include wet chicken into dry food? They don't. They process it. People knocking Hill's for including chicken meal need to get a grip. Let your common sense be your judge. This food is balanced, not over-proteined like a lot of other brands, which can actually do long term damage. My dog is energetic and goes #1 and #2 just fine. He loves his Science Diet. I don't plan on changing any time soon.

My puppy is a Boxador (Boxer/Lab) and she loves this food. In fact, the first time I brought it home she was jumping on the bag trying to get it open. I have read many reviews on Science Diet in general and they have not received the best reviews for some odd reason... but, my dog has not had any gastrointestinal complications and loves this brand of dog food. It's a keeper for me... not to mention it is reasonably priced.

My puppy has to be hand fed the Hill's Science small bites food because she won't go anywhere near it. And she NEVER used to refuse food. She is not gaining any weight and seems to have lost some weight, is lethargic, is drinking water excessively throughout the day and has diarrhea almost every day now.

I'm not sure if the manufacturer has switched something in its production process because the last bag I bought seems to be different from the previous bag. Now, my 3 month old puppy refuses the food. Sometimes her bowl just sits untouched for hours until I have to hand feed her.

I did not associate her reaction to the new bag of Hill's Science since she was fine when we fed her the last bag. But since I started feeding her the new bag, she is eating less and less each day and is becoming much too skinny and lethargic.

So I checked consumer reports and found MANY pet owners who had the same response from their pets to Hill's Science diet- loss of appetite, weight loss, diarrhea and in some cases extreme vomiting and even internal gastro damage and death in some cases!

I'm taking my puppy to the vet immediately and returning to Amazon the unused bag I still have.

Thanks for your post! This is a very unusual report. We have not made any changes to this formula. Would you mind calling our Consumer Affairs Department at 800-445-5777 so we can gather some information regarding your puppy's condition?
We hope your puppy is doing better!

I got Zoe from what I believed was a reputable breeder. After I saw the conditions i had doubts. I brought her home and soon after -- i woke up one morning and she was covered in poop and vomit. She only weighed 1.9 lbs in the first place. There wasn't much to loose. I took her to my vet, Dr. Gosney, the best vet in Temple, TX. She had coccidiosis. We got meds and he asked me what I was feeding her. I told him chicken and some other food. I don't remember the name but it had a very good rating. He told me that dogs can get pancreatitis from too much protein. I am a nurse and this made sense to me but I hadn't thought of it. He said that she needs a balanced diet and prescribed Science Diet. I love Dr. Gosney but I wondered if he was just selling the product for them. Alas, I was desperate and worried, so I took the cans home and with the meds and the food, her appetite very quickly returned. Soon, I got her on the dry too, which she loves. Her coat now is super shiny and she has changed tremendously from the little puppy in the picture. Lots of energy and wellness. Poops look very healthy and Zoe is energetic and in 5 seconds of my back being turned was able to chew up my expensive new towel in the bathroom on my shelf. TOWELS I CAN REPLACE. Zoe, I can't. Thank you Science Diet. I know this sounds like a commercial. I am a real person in Temple TX. p.s. i would take a fresh pic but she is napping.

When I adopted my puppy this was the brand that she was being fed at the shelter and was also recommended by the vet. I was provided with 2 2-lb. bags when I adopted her, she was 10 months old, and so I needed just enough to get her through to 12 months. She seemed to enjoy the food and, after some research, while it's not the best brand in terms of ingredients, it is better than the grocery store bargain brands, so I still feel like a decent dog owner. Basically, I think this size is good for transition into adult food or even other brands if you wanted to switch.

Keep in mind this product is made by Colgate-Palmolive - a huge commercial food and household goods manufacturer. Their number one priority is PROFIT - NOT YOUR PET. The number one ingredient in this product is chicken MEAL - not high quality chicken. Marketing this sub-standard product through vets getting kickbacks is criminal imo. Do the research yourself! Dog food advisor does not recommend this product. Listen to them - not to this huge profit-oriented company.

As a company born of a veterinarian's vision over 70 years ago, we are proud of the fact that Hill's® pet foods are veterinarians' number one choice to feed their own pets. We have maintained a strong, respectable bond with the veterinary profession from the start. While we are a company of veterinarians working with veterinarians, we want to be clear that Hill's never pays veterinarians to recommend our pet foods.
