World's Best Pencil? NOT ANY MORE! I used to swear by the quality of these pencils. They truly were the best. But something's happened! This year (2012), I purchased both the yellow-barreled and the black-barreled HB pencils at the usual PREMIUM price and got ordinary to poor quality pencils! I checked the newer Ticonderoga pencils against an older one and a Staples brand pencil. The newer Ticonderoga were no better than the Staples. In fact, the new black-barreled pencil was not even as good as the Staples. The newer pencils aren't as soft or as dark as they use to be. They drag on the paper instead of moving smoothly. I was going to attach a photo of the comparison I made but regrettably, I don't know how. My advice: Don't pay the higher price for pencils that are no better than a "supermarket brand".

This is the best pencil on the market. It is so good that it is always an item we ask for specifcally while on deployments.

Reasons why this pencil is the best:

(1) Since it is constructed with REAL wood and not synthetic wood/rubber - this pencil is very easy to sharpen by hand or with an electronic sharpener. Try sharpening a rubber pencil in an electronic sharpner and it is a total waste of time.

(2) The lead does not break off very easily and can be sharpened to a very fine point. This pencil is more reliable than a more expensive .3mm mechanical drafting pencil at producing very fine lines.

(3) An eraser that works!!! A lot of pencils these days have erasers that do nothing but smear and make things worst. The erasers of lesser pencils simply do not work at all! The Dixon Ticonderoga pencil has a very fine eraser to compliment the lead and it does an excellent job of removing lead without smearing and never ever gets dried out.

Simply the best pencil out there.

This is the absolutely the greatest pencil you can purchase. It writes smoothly and works like a charm. It is easy to sharpen and erase. This pencil is magical.

I am not sure who the people are that are giving this pencil a five star rating but they must not use pencils as often as I do! I am a first grade teacher and these pencils are terrible. I know since I sharpen more than 20 of them a day! They are not made in the USA. They are made in China and Mexico and the ones from Mexico are worse than the ones from China however, they are both poor. I actually have complained to the company and was sent over 24 dozen to compensate me for the poor quality that I have been experiencing. I used to request this brand specifically because they were good at one point...but that is no longer the case. The replacements they sent me are just as bad as the ones I had in my classroom originally. For next year I have changed the brand of pencils that all of our first grade will be using from Ticonderoga to Papermate....we shall see how they work--the pencil wars are on in my classroom. Does anyone take pride in their products anymore????

I must admit that I am very disappointed with my Dixon Ticonderoga #2 Pencils. The lead keeps breaking off after I sharpen or while I am writing. It happens to nearly everyone of the Ticonderoga pencils I have purchased. I am still looking for a good pencil.

Sharpen...start to write...break. Sharpen...writes for 1 minute...break. ETC. ETC. ETC. The WHOLE BOX. These pencils are AWFUL. The teachers in the school recommended these...maybe they used to be good...but not anymore.

Unless there is a public statement from Ticonderoga that they made a mistake and have rectified the problem...stay far away.

I never knew I could get so FRUSTRATED by a simple pencil. Guess I have to write in INK from now on.

This are absolute garbage. You sharpen them the point breaks I mean every single time. It drove my 6 year old crazy. the lead is loose on the inside of the pencil it is not tight in to the wood. It is annoying to have to keep sharpening and resharpen. NOPE not the sharpener, either, I tried 3 different brands of sharpeners, even that commerical sharpener at work. I did not even sharpener the last 2 in the box. The pencils to buy are Papermate Mirado pencils, these are absolute perfection. The only time you need to sharpen one of these is if the point wears down period.

I bought these pencils from the local Staples store here in town. It is written on the package "The Worlds Best Pencil". When I got them home and started sharpening one I found out different. Junk pencils man! Totally! Do not buy these! I've been an Artist for 30 years and I have used a ton of pencils and these babies suck to the max!

Also, a heads up if your on a mission hunting down pencils. I bought a pack of 4 Papermate Mirado Classics also. Same thing as the Ticonderoga, Lead breakage , wood cracks. Made in Mexico on the package.

I found 2 made in U.S.A pencils in my jar. I bet they are 10 years old. They sharpened to a point perfectly and I'm using them for now. LOL.

These pencils are absolute garbage. You can't even sharpen then without the wood splitting down the middle. If you are lucky enough to get past that, the lead is very weak and breaks off everytime you try and write with it. This is the WORST PENCIL EVER!

Well here I am, a pencil lover, who like you, is on the hunt for a perfect pencil. Mechanical pencils don't seal the deal, as they are not as smooth, and an oblivion to operate. The truth is, I am a wood pencil lover, and I wanted to find the perfect WOOD PENCIL. I DID, BUT, it isn't this one. Poorly crafted it is, because of small flaws. The pencils are made in china and Mexico with low quality cedar from all over the place that they basically superglued together. It is not from one piece of cedar, and therefore, it breaks, it cracks, and fails to get the job done. There is also a chemical on the two layer coating that was actually registered as a pesticide recently by the EPA. The lead crumbles and breaks all the time, and is not smooth. The eraser hardens faster than any other eraser I have seen, and is a complete wasteof time. I recommend the MIRADO BLACK WARRIOR a secret rival of the Ticonderoga. The mirado has a two coat black matte finish, one piece cedar, and gold stamping that is rolled on to the cylindrical shape. The shape let's you grab the pencil in whatever position you want, unlike the Ticonderoga because of it's 6-8 sided shapes which give you 6-8 positions. The mirado also sharpens easily, as it is one piece cedar, and it has non toxic wax in the lead, which means the lead breaks less, forms better points, and writes smoother. The mirado is faster, has a better name, better quality, and is stronger, and lasts longer, but is a dime more expensive per pencil. Also, its eraser is known for smoothness, but crumbles a little, and doesn't last as long. So I suggest everyone joins the pencil revolution, and sides with the Mirado Black Warrior, who really kicks butt.
