I'm in the military I know alot of people who have the Casio G-Shock watches. I bought the Timex Expedition Adventure Tech Shock watch about 3 yeras ago. Put it thorugh salt water, rain, submereged it in water, and smashed against anything you can think of. Never had a problem with it, I had to replace the battery in it about a year ago and recently took it thourgh a 10K mud run and it's still working just fine. Best watch I've ever owned. I would put this watch up against any high dollar military/outdoor watch.

This watch has more features than most g-shock watches and its way more user friendly, this watch is so tough,i beat it daily at work and it shows no sign of wear!its dunked in water all through the day, jarred, bumped and banged and it looks like new still and the digits are bigger than the g's (big plus for us over 40 guys),hands down my favorite watch and it"s loaded with lots of cool features: time,day,date,month,a.m. p.m. indicators,3 time zones, compass(works dead on!)stopwatch, timer, occasion reminders, hydration timer,200m water resit, shock resist, and indiglo night lite with night mode, and worth every penny. As a hunter and fisherman, this watch helped me get back to my truck after getting turned around in the thick florida woods on a small game hunting trip, this is a useful feature that worked in a real world situation unlike casio's useless temp. and barometer watches that have to be off your wrist for 20 minutes to even read close.Another big plus over the g-shock watches, is the price,a watch with this many features from a casio g model would be well over a couple hundred bucks or more!(like a frogman model)i.m.h.o.this thing should be military issue!its that good, hope this review helps.

I purchased this watch based on the reviews on Amazon and based on previous good experience with Timex Ironman watches. I ended up returning the watch, because the numbers are pretty dim. At first it did not seem as a big problem and I liked the bulkiness of the watch as I expected it last for long time. But over the time, I realized that the watch is very hard to read in direct sun due to the reflection, in the morning and in the evening due to the fact that the numbers are so dim.
Over the time I also disliked how stiff the band it. The edges where the band attaches to the watch are under an angle, so when you tighten the strap so the watch does not move around (that is my personal preference) the band cuts into your wrist. It is not painful or annoying, just something I did not enjoy over the time.
I ended up getting one of the solar Casio's (my second) because I also realized the potential of replacing batteries several times and the cost associated.
I think that it is very nice built watch, just be aware of the readability factor and also potential cost of replacing batteries.

This watch surprised me! I'm in the military and have owned quite a few tactical watches, most costing more that a few hundred dollars. For the price of this watch, its basically a freebie. Its not loaded with a bunch of unnecessary features. The compass is DEAD ON! Very easy to calibrate on the fly. I wish they had this watch in all black and a coyote tan, I'd probably order them as well just to have a back up! Good job Timex!

13 years in the military, two deployments to Iraq, Kuwait and a year in Korea and tons of so called "military watches."
This is by far the most rugged and most reliable watched I've owned. The display is reassessed so when you hit against something, the glass won't get hit. It's constructed with larger buttons so you can easily make adjustments during night ops. But those buttons don't stick out like most other watches. They look as if they aren't even there. The compass is very accurate. And with all timex watches, it's also very user friendly! I recently bought a darker colored version. Green is awesome but the darker one is also nice looking. If you're looking a tough inexpensive watch with a compass, then look no further.

I recently purchased this watch to replace another Timex Expedition T47512 that was well-loved and used. Though, I wanted to upgrade to this watch for few more options which my other watch did not have; such as the shock-proof, extra alarms, different time-zone settings, and a rubber wristband.
My previous watch was purchased mainly for the digital compass, which I used very often in both the city and countryside of Japan. I also learned that I used the alarm and timer often as well, and the Indiglo light.
This was a great replacement and upgrade. I really like the additional two alarms. The digital compass is great(like my old watch), and I like the added feature of a digital needle on this watch. The two different time zone settings is good for me to keep track of time differences in Chicago and Japan. I also plan to utilize the occasions alarm as well. The Indiglo light is bright and easy to access. The face is big and easy to read. And the timer is great, which I use often while cooking. I haven't used the hydration timer yet, but might use it as I start up running again this summer.
My other watch had a very comfortable and easy velcro band, but after awhile it would get funky from sweat and dirt. I would wash the band, but it was tough to get the stink out. Also, the little rubber piece which secures the band(like a belt loop) tore. This happened through everyday use, which is not a surprise. That's why I got this watch, with a sturdy rubber wrist band which hopefully will hold up to my wear and tear, and stay clean and funkless. So far so good. Though, it's not as easy to get on and off as my other velcro band. It fits securely though and comfortable to wear.
My last watch I banged around quite a bit and the upgrade with this watch for shock proof was something I was looking for. Time will tell on this one. It seems quite sturdy though.
So far, so good. It's bit bigger than the T47512, but it's not awkward. It's easy to set the functions and I like how the buttons are kinda "hidden" and do not protrude from the body(except of the handy light button). I am very happy with my purchase and it's a great upgrade from my previous Timex, which I really loved too. This watch seems very sturdy and will hopefully out last my other watch.

I bought a watch at the store and returned it broken the next and used my store credit for this watch six years ago. The watch is absolutely a perfect design. It has a repeating timer that I use for all sorts of things; it calls it a hydrate function. The built in electronic compass is fairly accurate and the watch is strong.
The screen is black and the bezel is protected through a great guard design. This is a great watch and I own Swiss, G-Shock, Seiko and Citizen watches that more costly are not of greater quality.
I have owned the watch 5 years and recently bought a duplicate to make sure I had a backup! :)

I can't read the time or any of the functions - waaaaay to dim. What you see in the picture is with the LIGHT on! Also very thick. It sits high on your wrist.

The watch is awesome. Very affordable and stylish. A friend of mine in the army told me about it. I really like the compass and I don't know why anyone complains about the brightness of the light. It gives as much light as you will need unless your blind.

very impressed when i took it out the box..great quality and feel..looks great as expected but the only thing i noticed right off the bat was the display was smaller than i expected from looking at pics and you tube reviews...wish the display took more of the watch face up...other than that its been great..fits good got about a 7.5- 8 inch wrist...
