Our old dustbuster gave up the ghost. So I ordered a new one. It was a disaster! It had a little brush right by the opening, making it impossible to push the dustbuster both ways! I returned it and was seriously discouraged.

Then I purchased this model. My daughter: "You didn't just buy A dustbuster! You bought THE dustbuster!"

It is awesome. The suction power is fantastic. It is lightweight and moves easily. It has held a charge for two or three weeks despite the fact that it's being used AND hasn't been plugged in! (A neighbor is going to put it up on the wall for me, but right now the old dustbuster setup is still in that spot.)

The one drawback is that it requires three hands to empty. Instead of just snapping the two main parts apart, you have to also pull out the filter because whatever you dustbusted up is on the other side of it.

But that's a minor issue. If you are looking for a classic dustbuster, you will be very happy with this model.

UPDATED REVIEW OF 11/7/13: I purchased two of these because the first one worked great and wrote a glowing review. Now after two years, I have to update. After one year, the first one died, followed quickly by the second one. I used both of them irregularly for normal use on bare floors for crumbs, pet hair etc. As a result, I CANNOT recommend these anymore. Once the warranty ran out, so did these vacuums. Basically, they are pieces of garbage.

Original review:I had an older model Dustbuster for many years; at least 10years and I loved it. When it expired, I replaced it with a Dirt Devil that was adequate, but wasn't nearly as powerful, and lasted less than four years doing the same job. I bought this one as a replacement and am pleased with its power. I use it for a quick run around to pick up cat litter in the bathroom and loose pet hair; to dust around a large kitchen, dining room and living room. It does a nice job with lots of power for the duration I need it.
The wall hanger is not hooked up to the charger plug, as with its predecessor and the Dirt Devil. With this one, the wall hanger is one separate piece. You place the hanger on the wall, run a bit of section of the cord through it, hang the hand vac on it, then plug the end of the cord into the vac. Not ideal, but it does save wear and tear on the wall hanger, so it is acceptable to me.
Clean up is a breeze. Take the two pieces apart, empty the filter and you're all set to go again.
The instructions tell you that the first time you use it, discharge it completely in order for the battery to recharge fully and quicker from then on. It is true. The first time I used this, the first few minutes of power were strong and steady then it dwindled down to nothing. I let it run until it discharged completely, then let it charge for a full 24 hours before reusing and the powerful charge lasts for at least 15 minutes. I haven't run out of power yet while using it.
A word of warning, when I bought this vac, Amazon listed a filter as being compatible, but it wasn't and I had to return it. Get the vac first, then wait until you need the filter in order to get the correct one. The manual says the normal life of the filter is 6 to 9 months use.

I'm disappointed with this 9.6 volt Dustbuster. I ordered it as a replacement for another 9.6 volt Dustbuster which I've had for over 10 years and which now the battery won't hold a charge. The previous Dusbuster came with a wand, a stiff brush, a soft brush and an accordion type wand which was great for getting down between car seats and other tight places. Also the previous Dusbuster charged while hanging in the wall mount by way of contacts in the unit and the wall mount. This model has no attachments, and while it does come with a wall mount, it charges by plugging the cord into the unit. This means every time you use it you have to unplug the cord from the unit. With the old Dustbuster all you had to do was lift it out of the mount. If all you want is a basic vaccum with good suction and no attachments then this model is for you. By the way, the attachments from the previous Dustbuster won't fit this model.

... I didn't realize the vacuum's wall mount wasn't a charger. To charge the vac, you have to still insert the AC adapter plug into the back of it. I keep forgetting to do this; I'm so accustomed to just putting the Dustbuster back into its wall mount.

This is not a huge deal and the vacuum does seem to work fine -- and charge quickly -- but I just thought I would mention it as it caught me by surprise and is a bit of an inconvenience.

I was a bit worried reading though all the reviews for different vacuums and really wanted to pick a good one. I love this one and couldn't be happier! Very strong, holds a good charge, although I usually plug it back in when I'm done, but it seems to work just as well through several uses without recharging. I use it mainly to pick up hair, which its great for, as theres no spinning brush or anything for it to get caught in. Easy clean up, things do get stuck at the very bottom or randomly fall through holes at the top of the basket (only exposed when you are opening the basket to empty it), but the filter can be washed and cleaned out for long use. Would definitely recommend!

It's pretty good. I use it for coffee chaff, and sucking up roasted coffee beans, of which it picks up with ease. It's not quite as powerful as I would have liked, but I'm pretty sure it can pick up anything it's capable of fitting in it's mouth.
I do have one complaint, and that is that the filter is difficult to clean with that the paper cloth is folded in order to fit in an egg shaped design, which bugs me to pick at under the 1/2 inch creases. But it may not be necessary to clean it so well.

When our children were little the dustbuster was an essential tool in keeping all the little messes that 5 kids can make under control. They soon learned that when they had a spill or a pile of crumbs or dirt from outside that they should go get the dustbuster and take care of it. That little beige dustbuster was wonderful! Now that I have grandchildren who are big enough to manage one, I bought this model skipping the lower voltage because we have a dog who "dribbles" dog food so this would also help pick that up too. HA! I'm not exaggerating when I say that the only thing this dustbuster picks up is fluffy dust bunnies from our wooden steps. It will not pick up clumping kitty litter, which is fine grained, nor will it pick up the little pieces of dog food. It will not pick up the crumbs under the high chair, it will not pick up dirt tracked in from outside.. This is sounding like Green Eggs and Ham.. It cannot, will not Sam, I am!! Seriously, getting the broom out is quicker than using this thing. It is such a disappointment. I wish I had returned this right away but I kept thinking it would work better if I kept using it because I couldn't believe the quality had slipped that much. So, I would suggest going for the highest voltage handheld dustbuster if you are set on that brand to see if that works better. I will buy another handheld but I'll go to the store so I can take it right back without return shipping.

I was hesitant to order this item, but the price was right, so I figured, "What's to lose?" I'm so glad I ordered this hand vac as it was way more than I expected. It is light weight, so not hard to use at all, and the suction is amazing! Like others, I'm not overjoyed with the hanger/charger arrangement, but it is okay. I followed instructions for the initial charge and total discharge, and I must say that it holds a charge far longer than I expected. I have emptied it once, and the "stuff" came right off the filter with no problem. All in all, this is a great little appliance for cleaning up all those annoying bits of dirt that get tracked in and for cleaning up crumbs after a meal.

As always, good fast service from Amazon, too.

I ordered this one because it was the same voltage as my last Dustbuster. Looking at the pictures, it appeared that it used the same filters as my previous one and this was another reason I ordered it. I am somewhat disappointed in this one because it doesn't feel to me like it is as powerful as my previous one, although it is powerful enough. Also, I have about a dozen filters remaining from the old Dustbuster and they will not fit this one. Even though I am not as satisfied as I was previously, I still would recommend the Dustbuster brand cordless vac.
