I needed a slow speed grinder and this APPEARED to fit the bill. The thing is huge. It is heavy. I failed to read the "fine print" and discovered on receipt that it is made in China. Quality is less than desirable. It was shipped in a cardboard box with styrofoam packaging. Imagine, if you will, just what a mass of iron and stuff weighing over 100 pounds does to a cardboard box with styrofoam packaging. The UPS dude dropped it off in front of my garage door. The first thing I noticed was bits of styrofoam coming out of the box. The box, partially torn open in shipment, barely held the grinder. I immediately discovered the light was flattened. To their credit, I called Steel City and received a replacement light within a couple of days.
To summarize, it is a big, bulky, heavy grinder. Quality is less than desirable and I'm not sure how it would hold up in a heavy use situation. However, I am a light user and I think it will get the job done for me.
Received this grinder a couple weeks ago and was happy at first. But vibration made the thing next to unmanageable even after truing the wheels. Someone had to have dropped this pretty good. But Amazon made good and sent the shipper right over the following morning after my midnight request for refund. What should be noted here is that Amazon has no business posting a tool covered by their warranty. It can't be, "only authorized dealers" are supposed to. This type of information does not cast Amazon in a favorable light. I hope they are informed of this soon!
Looked at both 8" and 10" Steel City grinders. Ordered 8" which arrived bent and broken. An earlier review commented on the inadequacy of packaging materials. Whatever the problem, I was required to return the product and concerned about Steel City's quality controls.
