I bought this game because of the Cabela name and what looked like great graphics on the backside cover but it was an absolute dud from the very start. The graphics are beyond horrible and the camera can't be controlled so you can only see things based on where the character runs to. The overwhelming majority of the game is spent climbing things and the things you are climbing all look exactly the same so it is unbearably repetative. The hunting scenes aren't actually hunting scenes. They are ambushes by the same predators over and over and they all do the same moves. Actual hunting happens I think twice in the game and briefly at that. Reloading your gun takes 1/18th of a second for some reason. The ending is so silly that it's downright funny. The game is also really short. I finished it in about 5 hours. I expected many hours of gameplay for the $40 I spent on the game. But to be honest, I don't think I could have lasted much longer with the game because it is so brutally repetative.

The only thing I enjoyed, and it wasn't much, was the dog-sledding. And that only happened in two short scenes. Believe me folks, DO NOT buy this game. If you really want to play it, rent it! It's not worth buying AT ALL. I'm going to sell it immediately so hopefully I can get some of my $40 back.

This game is terrible! Save your money! It had the potential to be a good game, but seems like it was rushed! The controls are slow, the shooting/aiming of the guns are aweful and when you get to the huge bear its nearly impossible to kill. There is a reason why it doesnt cost very much. Do not waste your money!

I tried for a half hour to get the controller calibrated, but to no end. Followed the directions exactly, but if you move the gun 1/4", the onscreen cursor races all the way across the screen (52").
This is the second Cabela's game I bought that sucked, It won't happen a third time.

This game is awful. I can't stress it enough. Rented it(thankfully) assuming it would be somewhat cool based on the Cabela's name and the pictures on the game. For starters, the camera angle is terrible and you can't control it so you can only see what is in front of you...running backwards in the game is impossible. Secondly, there's no hunting whatsoever. You get attacked by animals all the time(most often wolves) and it's nearly impossible to kill them the way the shooting is set up(try it and you'll see). The only hunting you do is to get meat or fur to survive and it's not even remotely close to hunting in the other Cabela games. Thirdly, the entire game is spent climbing - they might as well have called the game Cabela's Everest Climb...

My advice is that you don't even look at this game...it's a giant turd.

the story is ok I guess, but the controls for the crosshair during shooting is terrible. It is incredibly fast and hard to place crosshairs on a desired kill and you cannot slow it down in control settings.

There aren't many age appropriate shooting games out there for 10 year olds... but this is one of them! My son loves playing this game.

It's got a good start. It needs a thicker story to it. The controls are wonky but manageable after a few minutes getting used to it.

Shadows of Katmai is a decent game.It offers great graphics and fast game play.Unfortunately,it is a third person shooter and you are unable to change the viewing angle, which sucks.I didn't realize that it was a third person shooter and would not have bought it had I known. One very important aspect of the game to note here is that it is quite impossible to play it without the Top Shot Elite gun as the cursor moves at lightning speed when you try to use the standard wireless Xbox 360 controller to play it.I spent only $20.00 on both game and gun,so I got a great deal.As others have noted, there is a LOT of climbing and jumping in this game.It gets repetitive and a little boring and the Kamikaze crows and bats that attack you don't add to the "fun" of this game one little bit.Every single animal attacks you,and frankly, since the game is set in winter ,the only animals that really belong in this game are the wolves and crows as bears hibernate in the winter and cougars(mountain lions) do not live in Alaska at all.Oh,well another Cabela's fantasy hunting game.Look at the last few entries in the Cabela's Dangerous Hunts series.Starting with Dangerous Hunts 2 there has been an unrealistic boss to be defeated at the end of every single one.Anybody want to hunt a Kraftar(a genetically mutated Hyena of enormous size, which is the final boss at the end of Dangerous Hunts 2011)?Yup-not only is the Kraftar unrealsalistic it's also very hard to kill.On a side note,Dangerous hunts 2013 was just released last Tuesday and it's a sure fire bet that there will be a final, unrealistic boss to defeat in that one, too.I plan on buying it,even though I know that it too will be unrealistic, but hey-at least it's a hunting game and most reviews on it a have been positive( on Facebook, and a couple of gamer websites, anyway).
I liked the original Dangerous Hunts-it was as realistic as a hunting video game gets and offered many hours of fun, unlike Shadows of Katmai, which can be beaten in as little as 4 hours.
Bottom line:Try this game if you want, but get it as cheap as you can,and only if you already have the Top Shot Elite or the brand new Top Shot Fearmaster that was released with Cabela's Dangerous Hunts 2013.A good price for the game and Top Shot Elite would be around $30.00 as you can use the Top Shot Elite(or newer Top Shot Fearmaster but that's more $$$)in most of the newer Cabela's hunting games.Great gaming to all!
