Pros: Comfortable; you can almost forget you're wearing it. Consistent connection; unlike a few of the reviews here I have not (in a couple of months use) had the headset lose connection to my phone. Quality sound; clear on both ends.

Cons: Frankly, none to speak of. Volume control takes a little getting used to, but it not really a problem.

I'm ordering another M55 today for my wife. She has never found a headset - either bluetooth or corded - that she was comfortable using for any period of time. She has 'borrowed' my M55 enough that I am just going to quit trying to get it back and buy myself another one.

I guess that's a con - I wish the M55 came in multiple colors so we didn't have to find a way to mark them once we have multiples in house... :-)

(First off, I would like to give this 4.5 stars, but don't have that option. Read on for my reasoning.)

I'm a big bluetooth headset snob (or nerd?), and I'm constantly searching for the perfect headset. Saw some pretty good reviews on this one so ordered it.

I've had it for about a week and I'm VERY, VERY pleased with it. I was quite surprised by its small-ish size. It looked bigger and "fatter" in the pictures than it really is. Turns out, it's a very nice size...thin, lightweight, not too wide or long, and sits comfortably and snugly in my ear and against my face.

The battery life is incredible...I don't understand why so many other headsets have such average to downright poor battery life. The M55 is rated at 11 HOURS, and I believe it. My initial experience is that this rating is deserved. (I've had 4-5 Plantronics M1100's, and while I love the design, the light weight and the sound quality, I'm always frustrated by the short battery life, probably less than 4 hours.) In addition, the M55 recharges quite quickly, probably 1-2 hours from almost dead.

I'm also impressed with the voice quality. I spend quite a bit of time on it, and the people on the other end can't tell I'm using a headset. That said, it's average in windy or noisy environments. I've had better and I've had worse, so this is in no way a show stopper.

I'm disappointed in the "range", but not surprised. Like most Plantronics headsets I've used (and there have been a LOT), it doesn't do well with any obstructions between the headset and your phone. As others have said, if you have it on your ear with your phone on the opposite side of your body, it can break up or get static/interference. However, with no obstructions, it seems to do okay, meeting the 10M/33FT range I believe.

Plantronics needs to up its game on the cheap earloops. I'm one that always uses the earloop, and, while they haven't broken, they just look and feel cheap. Similar ones have a swivel/pivot where the loop and the snap-section join so that you can better adjust the headset against your face and in your ear. Also, I think it only comes with one earbud, which fortunately fits my ear nicely. However, you may need to order some different sized ones to find the right one for you...they're available and pretty inexpensive.

Overall, this will probably be my daily driver. I have quite a few bt headsets sitting around, but I am really, really liking this one...a LOT. Would not hesitate to recommend to anyone. Just a really, really great little all-around headset.

PROS:
- Battery life - WOW!
- Size and design/appearance
- Sound and voice quality
- Comfortable
- Recharges quickly

CONS:
- Interference/breaks up if your body is between the phone and headset (the main thing that keeps it from getting 5 stars (minor)
- Cheap(ish), inflexible earloop (minor)
- Only one earbud? Seriously? (minor)

I bought this for my wife who works from home for an employer in another state. She is a data analyst who teleconferences for HOURS every day. Her previous bluetooth headset was an LG model that had an obnoxious tinny sound quality to it and occasional lags or skips in the sound. I hated it. Every time I called her, it sounded like she was talking to me through a piece of aluminum drainage tubing, so I always made her take off her headset and talk into the phone. I finally mentioned that her employer was probably annoyed as well, and she mentioned that they did often ask her to repeat her comments during meetings.

A few months ago, I bought her the Plantronics M55 headset as a gift. At first, she said I shouldn't have spent the money and her old one was "fine," but as soon as she tried it, she was amazed. She could hear others better, and suddenly there were no more requests to repeat herself during meetings. Frankly, when I call her I can't even tell she's on a headset. She sounds crystal clear and right next to the phone. No more of that obnoxious tinny and hollow sound that the other headset had (and that most speakerphones seem to have as well).

When I mentioned that Amazon was asking me to review our purchase, she summed it up this way: "Absolutely fantastic. Worth every penny. I love it." Enough said.

I have both the M50 and the M55 headsets. I have tried several headsets over the years since bluetooth became popular. I prefer the M50 headset simply because of the way the ear piece is made but both the M50 and the M55 are decent headsets and if used mainly just for calls, will do what they are mainly intended to do. Don't discount them because they are affordable. If you want to spend more on a headset, you can spend a LOT more and still not get EVERYTHING you want in one. People can hear me, and I can hear them well on these headsets. I did modify the earpiece on the M55 a little to make it fit better inside my ear but otherwise, I'm happy with both of my purchases of these headsets. I spend a LOT of time on the phone talking to friends and family outside of Alaska and have yet to have my headset go down below medium on power. They use a basic micro USB charger (the same kind my phone uses) so if I loose one charger, it's easy to replace. One piece of advice I'd give anyone who is thinking of buying a bluetooth for the first time: Go to a cell store and try on a couple of different ones to see what fits your ears the best and THEN order it from Amazon to save money. :-)

the talk/end button is half the bluetooth so if you try to adjust it in your ear you hang up on people. also if you try to put it on while phone rings, you will surely answer the call on accident. buy a m155 or m165 instead and will have 100% BETTER design.

I had previously used a Jabra Easy Go bluetooth headset, and while it was incredibly easy to use, it's buttons weren't so convenient for changing volume or answering a call. This one is much more intuitive, not to mention has a better volume level. I felt like with the Jabra, you had to be in a completely enclosed room with no sound to hear the other person reasonably well. For the size and price range of this headset, the Plantronice M55 does a good job of being audible even when there's a normal level of noise around you. To me, that's the kicker because when I'm on the go, there's always bound to be people talking near me on the train, loudspeaker announcements, street noise, etc. Few things will sound as good as when using your wired headsets with mic but this does an excellent job. The hands-free voice-answering system is also very convenient, and I love how it verbally tells you how much talk time it left on the unit when you turn it on. No more guess work! This may be on the higher end price-wise of bluetooth headsets, but I think it's worth it.

It's not Plantronics' fault. For most people i'm sure that this bluetooth fits comfortably; but for me, it was anything but that. I have to basically shove it into my ear. After an hour of talking, my ear hurts horribly. The bluetooth I had before this was Plantonics M50. The M50 is a wonderful bluetooth and I highly recommend this one for people who have small ears. The reason I had to get a new one was because my puppy chewed it up and I thought I would try the newer model-M55. They changed the part that goes into your ear and it's no bueno now. Pros: the sound quality is good. The person I was speaking to could hear me just fine for the hour that I spoke on this. I can't attest to the battery life as I only used it for about an hour. For most people I am sure this would be a great product, but for me it just did not work.

I bought this based on a recommendation from the WireCutter as a good quality bluetooth headset for a comparatively low price. Bought it and was perfectly happy with it but didn't think a lot about it one way or another. Then I lost it. A few days later I found it. Outside. In the wet gravel of my driveway. Where it had clearly been stepped on. I brought it into the house and nearly tossed it in the garbage as I was sure it wouldn't work. Then I changed my mind and dropped it into a bag of rice and left it for a couple days. When it was dry I plugged it in and called my husband expecting that it either wouldn't work or that the sound quality would be horrible. After our conversation I asked him how the sound quality was--it seemed fine on my end and it was fine on his. I'm still using it months later. Very, very impressed! This will definitely make me a repeat Plantronics customer.

Other pluses beyond durability and sound quality are strong battery life--love that it can sit in my bag for a week or more without being used and then still have 10 hours of talk time in it.

I don't find it "forget it's there" comfortable, but it doesn't bother me while I'm talking. I do take it on and off and I have accidentally disconnected calls in doing that, but not frequently.
