Vine Customer Review of Free Product( What's this? )
At the time it seemed like a good purchase since I have an old unused iPhone 4 that seemed perfect for it. It is sturdy and well-design, as are all things Fisher-Price, in my experience. However, getting the phone in and out of the case is an (understandably) painstaking process. While this serves well as "childproofing", it creates the dilemma of not being able to easily turn off the phone so you don't do it, and then the battery soon goes dead and the next time you bring it out it's worthless. Subsequently, I went with a different (albeit more expensive) solution - I purchased a Lifeproof case for the phone to protect it from drops in the toilet, etc and I employ the (new to iOS 6) "Guided Access" feature which disable the home button and other functions to prevent our boy from doing anything on the phone other than use the app that we launched for him (now 22 mo old). Also, the free apps intended for use with the phone are about as good as you'd expect for being free. They didn't hold his interest for very long and became annoying to us pretty quickly as well.

The manufacturer provides the basic concept: an iPhone case that sturdy enough your kid won't break it, with added protection from slobber. That's the entire concept, but I'm certainly not complaining.

Ignoring the app they try to pimp along with this product, it's worth its weight in gold to a parent of a fussy child. There are plenty of apps to occupy your child, and if you find the right one it doesn't get much better than hearing the cries stop, seeing the smile slowly creep onto their face, and watching them bounce up and down like babies and toddlers do.

One great aspect of this product is the home button on the iPhone is blocked off from usage. Once the front cover is opened the viewing space is obviously enlarged from the front-page mini-window, but the home button still can't be pushed. The protective screen over the front of the iPhone avoids the bubbles that plague most screen covers, and it retains the sensitivity to the touch. The handle is also perfect for little hands, and works well as a teething toy. Actually, the whole thing can be chewed on fairly safely. Speaking of safety, the back of the reader simply can't be opened by a child. It requires the push of a safety button, followed by simultaneously down a second latch.

In summary, I put in my iPhone, went to the internet, found the "Hot Dog Song" from the Mickey Mouse Club, and my daughter now thinks this is the best toy ever. She doesn't know what she's doing, but when the song ends, she slaps at the screen and the video restarts. That is a great toy. The only reason this doesn't get 5 stars is the fact that ultimately, it really is just a big iPhone case.

This is a fun little toy for the youngest set. How many times I have seen 1 year olds reach for cell phones? I still cringe. This is a case you put your iTouch or iPhone in before you hand it off to the little one. My G4 iTouch fit into it and it was easy enough to use the touch screen even though the faceplate was thick and plastic feeling.

If you can manage the child proof backing to get the iTouch in it, this is a great solution. I doubt it would survive immersion but it looks pretty sturdy otherwise.

I put my iTouch in with the button at the top with the cut out and that made it upside down in the case. My iTouch is the right size but old enough that it doesn't correct the upside down orientation - only three sides. That was pretty interesting to learn about my iTouch because it had never been an issue before. (This issue actually corrected itself after I reset my iTouch recently.)

If I put the iTouch in it so the orientation is correct, then I can't use the button. It's not a huge issue, only a problem if yours is as old as mine. (This issue is also corrected after a reset.)

The apps are cute. I found it easier just to go to the app store to download them.

And Fisher Price? There's no excuse for that kind of packaging and no way you could have made it more difficult to get it out of the box. The only thing worse than breaking fingernails is having a child watch and hear that kind of language. I said Gol Darn it 8 times.

This is one of the worse Fisher-Price products I have ever come across. It is meant for an infant or very young toddler to use an iPhone or iPod. The product starts off bad and gets worse. The packing makes it seem like it is a gold bullion: I don't think these are going to be objects of theft.

Then the back is hard to get off, if you have a case you need to take it off, and then the plastic cover makes buttons very hard to use. To top it off you don't even get any credit for Fisher-Price paid apps, just a QR code to some free apps.

Much better ways to use your money and completely forget it for a phone of iPod you use. I could only see it for a spare and it isn't even worth it for that. Not recommended.

The title and image are misleading and are likely intended to mislead parents into believing they are purchasing some sort of V-Reader, only scaled down for baby level comprehension and interaction.

Nope. It's an ipod case.

It's not a bad idea, providing a tool that allows your child to make use of your ipod in a safe and engaging way, but that's not at all how it's being marketed, and I find that shameful.

It is a great case for an iPhone 4 or iPod 4. Unlike the product description it DOES NOT fit iPhone 5.

Vine Customer Review of Free Product( What's this? )
I have found some advantages to using this Laugh and Learn reader compared to having little ones use the apps directly on an unenclosed iPhone or iPod (we tested it only on an iPhone). However, it is essentially a special case which is easy for little ones to grasp. The case itself is not a reader. An iPhone or iPod must be added.

1. Opening and shutting the book's relatively thick and easy to handle cover allows babies and toddlers to turn the pages themselves. This is easier for those with beginning motor skills to manage. In fact, they can do this before learning to swipe the screen of the iPhone we tested.

2. The attractive appearance and bright colors of the Storybook Reader engage babies' attention. It looks like a beginning reading book.

3. Set-up is easy.

4. The apps are ideal for babies, with books containing simple nursery rhymes or stories and objects which move when they are touched. One example: when a baby touched the screen, pots in a kitchen shook and seemed to sparkle.

6. Basically, if you have certain models of iPhones and iPods, you have a case..and can insert your device, pre-loaded with several apps. Then you don't need a bunch of other books to carry along. Yes (as other reviewers have noted), you can use the apps without the case but it looks and feels more like a board book when put in the Reader case. Also, separate brightly colored rings on the side allow babies to grasp the Reader more easily.

The case also protects iPhones and iPods from any messy fingerprints, baby drool, etc.

There is one shortfall I don't like: with our iPhone inside its protective case, it wouldn't fit into the Reader's holder.. So we had to remove the iPhone case to test the Laugh and Learn. I wouldn't let a baby use this without being right there to prevent the book from being tossed across the room. But being nearby encourages parent-baby interaction - and that's a good thing.
