So we like to make our own jerky since it will stay good in the cupboard for quiet a while. However it stays much longer in a vacuum sealed bag. Ive been looking into several different makes and models and this one came along at a fantastic price so I gave it a try.

This sealer comes with 4 starter bags and an accessory tube for canisters (along with an instruction manual READ IT). We experimented with making different shapes and sizes of bags, and as long as you follow the instructions this seal-a-meal is a dream to use.

This product isn't for commercial use so you have to give it a small cool down period. You also need to keep about an inch and a half free for sealing, sometimes we had to hold it down after the hands free light came on because we had too much in the bag.

This product is fantastic and I plan to use it quiet a bit over the next several months. If your on the fence about which one of these types of products to buy, get this one.. You wont be disappointed!

This isn't difficult to operate. As a 'guy' that doesn't read instructions however; I wasted a bag or two. The directions are clear sort. 1st you MUST leave enough plastic to seal your food. I thought 3" was a bit too much. If your food is a larger piece you'll need that extra area when you seal it since the bag will stretch around your item and pull. If you don't have enough material the suction seal won't work and it won't seal. The next thing I didn't realize was that you MUST stick the end that you're sealing into the trough (trough with the rubber seal around it). There are little nibs that kind of hold the bag in place there. This is the only way that the vacuum can suck the air out of the bag; it uses the rubber gasket as an airtight chamber. Also: I bought the roll of bags that you must cut. If you're lazy try and get the bags pre-cut. If you have different sizes you may safe some money by buying the full un-cut roll. The only drawback is that you'll have to seal both ends and you MUST cut the bag straight across or the sealing gasket will not function. Use a ruler if you must. Great product; the bags are cheapest on Amazon. Don't forget to leave around 3" for room to seal at the ends, place the cut end INTO the trough with the gasket surrounding it and use the nibs to hold in place. Press down using two hands on either side and wait for light to release.. voila!!! you have a nice sealed product. Sorry for the long write up, but if you're like me and didn't read the Spartan instructions; this may in fact help a bit.

Overall I thought this product was ok. It does exactly what it says in the product description but the problem I have with this unit is it doesn't have a separate "seal" button. Meaning, it sucks every bit of air out of the bag and will not seal until it's done. Its automatic. So if you want to seal berries or fruit, this may not be the vacuum sealer your looking for as it will likely smash the contents in the bag. Meats and such will be just fine though. Good sealer for the price if you don't care about smashing the contents.

I had always wanted to get a food sealer (since I shop at Costco) and I saw this one as a Lightning Deal on Amazon a couple of days after Thanksgiving. Once it arrived I popped it open and gave it a try. It's a basic food sealer with a hands-free option that kicks in once the bag seals and begins the air extraction. The top does not lock you have to hold it down until a light comes on and lets you know you can let go. Because of having to hold the top down you better be doing the sealing on a large enough flat surface. The other drawback is that it comes with only like 6 bags. All in all though it does the job (kinda well actually) as long as you keep it flat and you do get to let go of it sort of quickly. I got it as a Lightning Deal so I really shouldn't complain so, if you are a Costco shopper like me, this will take care of your sealing needs for sure. When you open the box you get the sealer unit, instructions and a tube for accessories (available for purchase) like jars.

I bought the Seal A Meal for my husband as a Christmas present this year. He shot a couple of deer..so he got it earlier and we both just love it..it's easy to use and we really had fun doing up the meat. I would also recommend buying the bulk roll you can cut yourself..it's a lot less expensive than any major store,we have checked all of them! You won't go wrong..we're buying 2 more for our sons as Christmas gifts!

Easy to use at a fraction of competitors cost. If it passes the test by lasting I would give it another five stars!!

I had almost given up on vacuum sealers since I have one from a major brand for years and I was never satisfied. So I was skeptical first on this unit, In particular the low price made me skeptical since there are many unit's over $100. But having in mind that I always could send it back and the overwhelming positive feedback made me try it out. I have to admit that I am very positively surprised because it really does an outstanding job.The food I vacuum sealed with it looks like the professorial vacuum sealed products I would find in a food store

Have had a Seal-a-Meal machine for over 5 years and it still works well! Meats store for 2 years and still are as fresh and tasty as the day I purchased them. The other machine on the market, I feel, is way over priced and too big for storing if you don't want it sitting out on your counter all the time. After a few uses, you will get the nack of using this machine and how big to cut storage bags, always leave enough head room for sealing--2-3inches. Buy the bulk roles of uncut material for bags as each storage situation is different, the savings is considerable. Highly recommend this specific brand product for saving money in so many ways!

I give this unit 5 stars. Having bought a couple inferior models for the same price. This unit works great. I was able to seal an entire quarter of deer with the pleated bags(purchased separately). I have used bags from all suppliers and all work well. The only problems I have had with sealing is when I didn't get all the creases out of the bag, or did not have enough extra to seal easily. Great value for the price.

I bought this sealer open-box a little over a month ago but didn't get around to try to use it until yesterday. The user's manual was missing but as I paid only around half-price and the basic instructions are on the machine anyway, I didn't care. But when the indicators failed to light up when I plugged it in and nothing happened when I pressed down the lid, I naturally assumed I had gotten a lemon. One it was too late to send back.

Today, I was already looking to purchase another when I decided to give it another go. This time though I downloaded the instructions, thinking that perhaps I wasn't doing it right. When I read that the indicators are not supposed to light up right away it gave me hope and sure enough, once I bypassed 'firmly' and pressed down real hard the vacuuming started.

So if you think yours is not working, try pressing the lid harder and chances are it will start.
