The nutritional elements in this are better than most grocery store pet foods, but not the very highest end either. More of an issue for me were the large kibbles. Not that my relatively small dogs couldn't eat them, but they required a lot more work than smaller kibbles and left tons of crumbs on the floor as a result. While I often use a kibble specifically for small breeds, I found the size of this kibble larger even than the normal label of many premium brands. Eventually, my older dog started to refuse to eat them and I had to switch him back to his previous food with a smaller kibble. So not a food I would tend to use again.

Unlike previous new foods we introduced, our mid size dog did not immediately take to this food. She picked through the dish for about a week during transition. However, once we switched over entirely, she consumed the food without hesitation. Nugget size may have been a little large for her at first from what we can tell- but she got over it. We now find she consumes this food at the same rate of previous foods. We also noticed no difference in her digestion/bowel movements and the consistency of her stool movement is solid, little smell, and easy to pickup- all good signs.

Without getting into hyper-technical detail (you can read ingredients in product listing), the ingredients listing of this food is very good and considered top quality by any standard. You will also appreciate the bag design since it is sturdy and resealable to keep the food fresh.

This premium dog food features deboned haddock, cod, flounder and pollock as well as a nice variety of fruit, vegetables and supplements including pro and prebiotics and glucosamine chondroitin. As expected there is a fishy odor but it is not overwhelming or unpleasant. The resealable bag is a definite plus. It is easy to open and closes securely. The kibble is manageable. It was big enough to slow my German shepherd and small enough for my Chinese crested to handle without difficulty. The fact that it is made in the USA from ingredients sourced in North America definitely contributed to my peace of mind. While I do wish all the ingredients were from this country, North American goods are, in my mind, more trustworthy than those from China or overseas. The dogs ate it enthusiastically and experienced no digestive upsets or other side effects.

Whether investing in a premium food is worth it is a matter of personal opinion. My experience has been that it is and I would rather pay extra for quality ingredients than pay the vet. My brother thinks dog food is dog food and cheaper is better. His dogs have weight issues, dental problems, skin problems and chronic ear infections. Mine do not. Probably if we added up our expenses, we would be about the same but I would rather have my pets healthy, and happy and spend my time at places other than the vet. It is a lot of money, no question. And just because a food is expensive, does not mean it's good. This one, however, has good ingredients, no fillers, preservatives or artificial flavors or colors. The only thing fishy is the fish and that is how it should be. Recommended.

My 16 year old large dog eats Nature’s Domain Grain Free Salmon Meal and Sweet Potato (found at Costco) and thought this would be a similar food alternate. I did half Costco brand half Nutrience to help the switch in food but she just picked at her food as if I put something nasty in it. This went on for over a week and I decided it wasn't healthy for her to eat so little due to her age and her current weight. I stopped feeding her Nutrience and went back to 100% Nature's Domain. But, I do have a picky dog. Nutrience seems to have a healthy dog in mind as well as dog owners that are looking for a healthy food option for their pets. I love the 'No Bad Anything' motto.

As I have said in reviews of other Nutrience dog foods, this is really good stuff, warranting 4.5- and 5-star ratings on most dog food rating websites. This means, in other words, that it contains a lot of good ingredients and very few bad ones. These quality ingredients are not just a finicky preference for dog owners who want to squeeze a few more years of life out of their pets; it improves life DAILY for dogs with allergies.

I have an English Springer Spaniel with terrible food and skin allergies. If I feed him ANY dog food that contains grain fillers, he breaks out, develops rashes on his tummy, itches like crazy, gets puffy eyes, and in general is totally miserable. Finding the right food has been an ongoing quest. Nutrience passes with flying colors: my Spaniel has never been healthier. Better yet, he loves the taste, and gobbles it up almost as fast as I can scoop it into his bowl.

With these generalities aside (which apply to all three kinds of Nutrience food I've tried), let me say a few specific things about the chicken flavor sold here:

* The smell is really nice for a dog food. Have you ever bought one of those cheap dog foods from a department store and it smelled like stale garbage? Well, not the case here. There is a very rich, fresh, almost pleasant meat smell. I think some of the freshness is the result of the large kernels (see below). Kind of like how coffee beans hold freshness better than coffee grounds, my theory is that the large kernels help to hold in freshness longer.

* Note well that the kernels are large -- like marble size or bigger. I probably would not feed this food to any dog smaller than, say, 20 pounds owing to choking hazards or difficulty chewing, but it's fine -- even good! -- for bigger dogs like my Spaniel, who weighs about 50. Just keep that in mind and there will be no problems.

* Be sure to read the label at the bottom of the bag where it specifies how much Omegas, glucosamine, and chondroitin this food contains. You will notice that the Turkey, Chicken, and Herring contains higher levels of these ingredients than some of the other, cheaper options from Nutrience, so purchase accordingly. The fantastic Seven Fish Medley formula (which I've also tried and love) is similar to this option.

Overall, I highly recommend this food!

We only feed our senior labrador premium foods because we want him to live long and prosper :>)!
I was glad to receive the Nutrience Fish Medley food via the vine program for Samson to review.
He evidently loves the taste because he devoured it the moment it hit his bowl.
I'm very happy with it based on the quality of the product overall, the ingredients, the north american sourcing of ingredients. I love that it has the carotenoid rich pumpkin, squash, and carrots, the high ORAC berries and fruits as well as probiotics.
This is definitely a keeper.
note: it is definitely more "fishy" smelling than some of the other fish-based foods we have tried.

Our large white english bulldog MJ, who is 5 years old, loved this delicious healthy dog food. I wish that it didn't cost so much, but for quality it has to be paid for. I like that it is made in small batches of healthy things. If you read the ingredients list with the fish and the fruits and veggies and things this sounds like a great diet for people too.

For a commercially prepared dog food, this dog food is quite good. The list of ingredients is very impressive and healthy. No fillers that I can see, only high quality protein and other good things like glucosamine for joint issues. I have two small dogs and one is fairly finicky about her food, the other will eat pretty much anything. Both dogs seemed to like this food a lot and my daughter was actually using pieces of it as a reward for learning tricks. It's kind of expensive, but if you have smaller dogs that don't eat a lot then it makes the price more reasonable. I couldn't afford it if I had large dogs who ate a lot. And I think in this case, you are getting what you pay for - a much higher quality dog food which should pay off by you having very healthy dogs.

Our dog was visibly excited when we first opened the bag and poured this food into her bowl. We tried the turkey, chicken, herring blend. She liked this food so much that she grabbed a mouthful, ran off and hid to eat it the same way she does when we give her a tasty bone or meat morsel. Adding water will make a little gravy.

After a couple of weeks, we're seeing a shiny healthy coat and a healthy, happy dog with a good appetite. Although the chunks of this food are really too big for our cats (and are probably too big for small dogs) our cats still take a chomp at it from time to time as a treat from their regular cat food fare.

Looking at the ingredients, this is obviously not cheap pet food and at almost $2/pound it doesn't sell for a cheap price. But for the love-of-dog, I have little doubt that many pet owners whose dogs love this food as much as our dog does will spring for it.

Add me to the group of reviewers who have a lovely big bag of dog food that won't be eaten! I put the food out with some excitement, happy to feed my dog a food full of high quality ingredients. I love the tag line of 'No Bad Anything'.

The dog sniffed, wagging her tail at the new food. She ate a few bits. And that's it. I left the food out, thinking if she'll just try it she'll get to like it. It sat there.

I refreshed the food, trying again. It sat there.

She will not eat the food. I've gone back to her old food and have a happy, satisfied dog.

So, three stars. I love the idea of the food and really wished the dog would eat it. I'd happily spend the money on a higher priced dog food if it's healthier. But as of now, it's sitting there in the bag, uneaten.
