Book Description

Why settle down when you can hook up?

"Happily married people and perpetually single people are similar: We've both given up on dating and have merely chosen different exit strategies."

So begins Aaron Karo's hilarious exploration of bachelor life, from the alcohol-fueled pursuit of chicks in bars to sophisticated advances on defenseless bridesmaids. As his thirtieth birthday approaches, Karo observes the women around him growing increasingly desperate to tie the knot and finds himself equally determined—to remain uncommitted. What follows is an outrageous account of one man's quest to party like a rock star, get laid with abandon, and silence his critics in relationships with the rebuke "I'm having more fun than you." Irreverent, insightful, and relentlessly funny, Karo offers a unique glimpse into the world of guys who defy convention, morality, and their moms in order to preserve their independence.

Warning! Not Intended for Married People: A Message from Aaron Karo

Dear Married Person:

Perhaps you clicked on my book by accident. You were trying to go to Crate & Barrel and ended up at Amazon. Or, maybe, one of your single friends is playing a prank on you. Either way, you don’t belong here. My book is not for you. Kindly scram.

Now don’t get me wrong, Married Person, I don’t have anything against you personally. I have a lot of married friends. Even my parents are married. It’s just that I wrote I’m Having More Fun Than You as a tribute to the hard-working single men and women who hit the bars night in and night out. The kind of people who would leave their best friend in the middle of nowhere just to pursue the possibility of getting laid. The kind of people who have their priorities straight. In other words, heroes.

You see, I’m Having More Fun Than You is a collection of humorous anecdotes and observations about dating and relationships recorded as I neared my thirtieth birthday. It was a trying time – during which I saw my buddies succumb one by one to ballroom dancing lessons and picking out place cards. But along the way I learned many valuable lessons about women (and myself) that you would never understand. Me and you, we’re just very different. Namely because you’re married and I’m still human.

There is a chance, however, that you have arrived at this page merely to purchase a gift – likely for a single friend on whom you and your significant other take pity. If this is the case, please resist the urge to flip through my book before handing it over. My tales of drinking and debauchery may not sit well with someone who’s been out of the game as long as you have. You will discover that while you were settling down, I was hooking up; while you were solemnly walking down the aisle, I was proudly doing the walk of shame. Soon you’ll realize that this whole time your single friend has been the one taking pity on you.

So, Married Person, I have said my peace. Now please leave. I suggest you peruse Amazon’s tremendous selection of baby monitors and lawn care equipment ideal for those who have given up on fun. This book, on the other hand, is strictly for those for whom the party has just begun.

Warm Regards,

Aaron Karo

5.0 out of 5 stars Comic Genius and Twentysomething Hero, September 15, 2009
By J. Sound (New York, NY) - See all my reviews
Karo is truly at the top of his game with his third book as he captures the essence of being single at a time when marriage is constantly being thrown in your face. "I'm Having More Fun Than You" is a collection of anecdotes about life as one of the only bachelors left among Karo's group of friends. The beauty of Karo's writing is that the topics are both relatable and universal (dating, drinking, hooking up), yet he tackles them in such a matter that he's insightful without being judgmental, detailed without being graphic, and honest without being offensive. Parts of this book will make you uncomfortable - because they're so darn true. And if you're older than 40 you might not get it. But overall Karo comes through with a laugh-out-loud page-turner that is, in my humble opinion, his best book yet.

5.0 out of 5 stars down, dirty.... and absolutely PERFECT!!!!, September 15, 2009
By PFunkStar (Chicago, IL) - See all my reviews
I only recently heard of karo thru his ruminations website (which is awesome by the way) so didn't quite know what to expect. Somehow book got delivered early and.... I read the whole thing in one sitting.... As a 25 year old girl (or "chick" as Karo says LOL), I'm blown away. i've certainly been given a lesson on what guys are REALLY thinking.. the book is a bunch of stories about single life that could not have hit closer to home. Laughed so hard I cried in some parts. True tales from spending your weekends either at the bar or at some annoying wedding -that sums up the book. And my life. Sigh. karo hits the nail on the head - sorry married people but I TOO am having more fun than you! A++

5.0 out of 5 stars A good time, October 1, 2009
I'm what Karo would call a boring sober married person, but I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It's hilarious all the way through. I think it should be required reading for all women, as it actually offers some incredibly entertaining and valuable insights about the illusive single male. In addition to being well written, this book is easy to pick up and put down (although you won't want to put it down) because it has short and easy to digest chapters. The hilarious sidebars throughout the book keep it fresh and exciting. This book guarantees a lot of laughs and a good time.
