9/11 Pentagon Attack Detailed by Defense Department Historians
Submitted by sallyc on Tuesday, September 11, 2007 - 16:17
Pentagon 9/11 http://bookstore.gpo.gov/collections/pentagon911.jsp The Department of Defense Historical Office has published a definitive account of the attack on the Pentagon on September 11, 2001. From the description: "Pentagon 9/11 provides the most comprehensive account to date of the 9/11 attack on the Pentagon and aftermath, including unprecedented details on the impact on the Pentagon building and personnel and the scope of the rescue, recovery, and care-giving effort. It's evocative narrative is based on firsthand accounts of survival, tragedy, and heroism drawn from hundreds of interviews, and features 32 pages of previously unpublished photographs, diagrams and illustrations." According to the authors, the book also gives the civilian world a glimpse into the way the military responds to crisis and how it takes care of its own. It also shows the successful coordination and the response of the emergency response groups in the area. More on the book can be found at http://www.defenselink.mil/news/newsarticle.aspx?id=47355

This review is from: Pentagon 9/11 (Paperback)
Almost 6 years after the 9/11/2001 attack on the Pentagon, a book has come out that tells the whole story and answers many lingering questions. This well written and richly illustrated book by the staff historians from the Historical Office, Office of the Secretary of Defense is a moving description of what happened at the Pentagon on September 11, 2001. Of particular interest are the number of pictures, many never before seen, that show the incredible damage the building sustained. In addition, there are photos that show pieces of the hijacked airplane lying between the inner corridors--evidence that it was in fact an airplane and not a missile that struck the building (as some conspiracy theorists have opined). The personal narratives are gripping and give the reader a true sense of the events of the day. The book has a number of diagrams that allow you to really follow the events of that tragic day. All in all, this is a fantastic book and well worth the purchase price.
