Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

The adage "breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince, dinner like a pauper" inspired this book, for Cunningham, a motivational speaker who lost 172 pounds in nine months with that approach. She and coauthor Skolnik, a nutritionist, met while filming a food-centric segment for Good Morning America, and have paired up to recommend a lifestyle change that emphasizes fueling up with a larger meal early in the day and, in the later hours, replenishing as needed via snacks and smaller meals. While much of the duo's advice is not new (whole foods are preferable to processed ones, eat more vegetables, avoid sugary sodas), it is intriguing. Food lists, portion information and recipes help with planning ahead—preparing meals ahead of time is also key, the authors say. A section on setting realistic goals aims to help readers manage their expectations, and recommendations for using a "hunger scale" encourage mindfulness. (Jan.)

3.0 out of 5 stars More Guidance needed, February 8, 2007
I was expecting more info such as how much is best to eat for meals and snacks as well as sample menus such as how many protien, carbs, veggies per meals and snacks (or calories per meal). I needed a little more guidance in that aspect.

2.0 out of 5 stars Didn't have to purchase to get the point, March 9, 2007
By M. Fed (Pennsylvania) - See all my reviews
You basically eat a big breakfast, decent lunch, and a tiny dinner. I really didn't have to spend $25 to do this. The sunshine tea thing, is hot lemon water. I expected more out of this book, based on all the hype.

5.0 out of 5 stars Making it real, December 28, 2006
By Denise Foell "Med trans" (Yonkers, New York) - See all my reviews
It's one thing to hear about a lifestyle diet, read what others do in a support group, try it, but not be sure about some questions...THEN when the book comes out, it suddenly becomes a real lifestyle that we all can do. I am a visual person and need to see things and read them over and over...then it all finally sinks in and things are not so overwhelming. So, for me the book was just what I needed to put this all together. What a wonderful help, and so simple to follow. No matter what our size, it works!!
