Good summary of the historigraphy - Not a narrative text

If you're seeking an entertaining narrative of the Wars of the Roses, then this isn't your book. If you've already read a number of such works and are interested in deeper aspects of the period, and are also interested in the behind-the-scenes so to speak of history, then this is an excellent volume.

I was very interested in the final chapter on Henry VII as the last medieval king, rather than the first of the "modern" Tudors. I've read a lot on Henry VII (as well as the other Tudors), and while he started the dynasty, in many, many respects he was the last medieval King, not the the first modern one - for that we have to look to Henry VIII, or maybe Cardinal Wolsey!.

So -if you're familiar with the names McFarlane, Chrimes, and Wilkinson, among others, then this is your book. Otherwise, read up on the period with a book by Alison Weir, Charles Ross, Desmond Seward, or R.B. Mowat if you can find him, or download his book at Archive.org
