Product Description
By the time authorities realize that Ana Bontierre has died from a lethal strain of the avian flu, she has already infected a dozen other residents of a quaint town in northern Wyoming. Investigators from the Centers for Disease Control are puzzled by the strange hand-drawn tattoo on her inner thigh. Within weeks, similar outbreaks occur in Hong Kong, Bangkok, and other metropolises, leading virologists from the CDC, World Health Organization and FBI on a wild goose chase. Eventually, they discover a pattern to the outbreaks. Dr. Jeffrey Plattenburg, a profiler for the FBI, believes that he is dealing with a serial killer who is purposefully infecting selected women with the deadly H5N1 strain of the avian flu. Other prominent doctors believe that the tattoos are a CDC cover-up to hide the fact that the genetic blueprint of the 1918 Spanish flu was stolen. As a global pandemic threatens the world, and thousands of victims lie dead, pharmaceutical companies scramble to mass-produce a flu vaccination. Dr. Plattenburg’s search for the common denominator among the victims leads him back to Wyoming where the Bontierres’ attorney, Mary MacIntosh, follows the clues the pandemic predator has planted and finds herself at the mercy of a madman with a desire to kill on a global scale.

About the Author
Maureen Meehan Aplin received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education before becoming a lawyer. The gruesome murder of her legal secretary inspired Aplin to write legal thrillers. She lives with her family in Southern California, where she conducts judicial hearings for both the juvenile and probate courts and is currently crafting her fifth Mary MacIntosh novel.

5.0 out of 5 stars Compelling, Gripping, Non-Stop & Action Packed!, January 22, 2007

(REAL NAME)
This book is one of the few gems that you look for when you want a good read. Once you pick this book up, you simply can't put it down. I have read many thriller & horror novels, but this one is unique in so many ways! The author adds so many elements that our society is used to gobbling down - the depravity of orphanages & the atrocities in some international ones, the soul-lessness of abused children & what they sometimes grow up into, the concerns of terrorism by toxic means . . .

1) There is not one moment in this book where the pace slows down. It starts fast, & continues fast for every single paragraph.

2) Both fact & fiction are weaved together in such a novel way, that you feel personally involved in this thrilling tale.

3) I have never read a thriller that uses the type of methodology as the serial killer in this book does.

4) The twists! Yes, we love the twists. There are a few expected & unexpected twists throughout this novel - & one huge one at the end. The author makes one huge twist so shocking because it involves something you expect, but a lot of things you can't foresee. It's incredible the way she makes the expected so unexpected - it pulls the ground from beneath you and totally takes your breath away!

If you are looking for a good, fast paced, thriller, this is the book for you. If you are looking for a book you can't put down, this is for you. If you are looking for some legal action, that is weaved in here, too! I have never read a book with all of the things I look for in a read present all at once.
