Editorial Reviews

Product Description

Is it Hot in Here? should be required reading! This book takes the complicated topic of global warming and breaks it down for the layman… Nathan doesn’t stand on a soapbox—he presents a fair and balanced argument for the climate of our world… If you live in a red state or a blue state, if you hug trees or drive a Hummer, this book is for you.”
—Josh Rubenstein, Meteorologist
KCBS/KCAL Los Angeles

“Nathan Cool’s is perhaps the most thoughtful, comprehensive, well-written and accessible study of global warming I’ve ever read. If Is it Hot in Here? were being taught in high schools and colleges, we might not be suffering through this problem at all.”
—Aaron Kenedi, Editor-in-Chief
Shift Magazine

“This is the book for those who want to learn about issues related to global warming… The reader isn’t pushed around by conspiracy theorists, jargoned scientists, aggressive environmentalists or people with agendas…rather, the nuts and bolts of the science, scientific process, political realities, and main debates over global warming are spelled out…”
—David B. Field, Oceanographer, Ph.D.
Scripps Institution of Oceanography

“With an informative and entertaining style, Nathan cuts through the many confusing and contradictory dialogues swarming around the global warming debate. When you read it, you’ll see that it’s not just the-sky-is-falling environmentalists who should be paying attention to voices like Cool’s…”
—Gwen Mickelson, Santa Cruz Sentinel

4.0 out of 5 stars As fair minded as possible, February 3, 2007
I decided it was time to learn about global warming and wanted to avoid the hype. This book did satisfy my goal. As a surfer, I was aware of Nathan Cool and learned about the book from [...].

Although the author has background in meteorology, he is not an authority on this subject. It's as if anybody had decided to do lots of research and write a report in the form of a book. His bibliography is entirely in the form of URLs of articles, reports, etc. This being said, he did a good job and attempted to be objective and present a description of the situation and arguments both for and against.

The book definitely reaches the conclusion that global warming is a fact and addresses arguments as to whether it is the cause of increasingly severe weather, among other things. I feel much more informed and enlightened. Although not the author's intent, it contains a lot of doom and gloom, this is just the reality but also discusses approaches to move forward in a more environmentally friendly manner.

5.0 out of 5 stars An enthusiastically recomended and desperately needed wake-up call for lay readers everywhere., December 9, 2006
By Midwest Book Review (Oregon, WI USA) - See all my reviews
Professional forecaster and American Meteorological Society member Nathan Cool presents Is it Hot in Here? The Simple Truth About Global Warming, a plain-terms discussion of what global warming is and what its repercussions for Earth's environment and for human civilization are. Chapters explain the basics of climate change, including both natural and manmade factors that influence it, counterarguments to those who denounce the existence of global warming, natural phenomena that serve as bellwethers to the planet's crisis such as frog populations and temperature trends, future possibilities and the hope provided by green technology, and much more. An enthusiastically recomended and desperately needed wake-up call for lay readers everywhere.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fact-filled and unbiased, November 15, 2006
By B. Hamilton (California) - See all my reviews
This book was a breath of fresh air. This isn't the first book I've read on the subject on global warming, but it is the first book I've seen that weighs in both sides of the story. The author uses a sometimes humurous prose while laying out the science of both natural and manmade elements that are causing the earth to heat up. What's particularly interesting is that as the book points out, the truth of the matter is not really apocalyptic, nor is it balderdash; instead, there are truths that come from both perspectives. Upon conclusion, I felt far more informed on this critical subject, and have used references within this book more than once in conversations related to global warming. I would highly recommend this book to anyone concerned about our planet who wants to know the whole truth about global warming, and not just one side's opinion.
