Book Description

Now available on DVD! Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Kevin Moore (aka Keb' Mo') takes students on a powerful journey into the world of traditional and contemporary blues guitar. He begins by showing how turnarounds and harmonized scale passages can be the basis for developing fluid phrases in a Robert Johnson-style blues tune. Keb' then teaches two originals, both employing a rhythmic alternating bass style as well as some jazz-oriented chords that add spice and interest to the songs. Switching to his National steel guitar, he then discusses the basics of slide technique, rounding out this exciting blues lesson. Songs: Delta-Style Blues * Perpetual Blues Machine * Angelina * Henry. 75-MIN. DVD * LEVEL 3 * INCLUDES TAB

Well. I thought this would be an advanced course in blues guitar. Winds up being typical basic junk. Keb will play a quick II-V and say.. oh.. don't worry about it!!

Very disappointed.

This lays a good foundation for beginning blues players (no solos, just rhythm). Don';t think it's worth the price. Comes with a tiny booklet in the case that only outlines a few of things on screen.

For beginners - 6/10
For intermediate players - 5/10
For advanced players - 2/10

4.0 out of 5 stars Does excatly what it says on the tin, June 6, 2003

Well the subtitle gives it away, "Basic Techniques"
I don't know how someone could write a review complaining
that it's no good for the Advanced player when the title
says "Basic Tehniques" ?

Anyway, I got it, found it very useful, has plenty of licks that you can apply to other tunes.
Also includes some jazzy chords that add a bit of spice.

4.0 out of 5 stars good basic blues technique, August 24, 2005

I bought this dvd because I am a fan of keb mo although I play the electric guitar and consider myself a novice on the acoustic. This dvd does what it says he goes over some information that a lot of people take for granted. For example he plays kind hearted woman and then stays on one chord and does many voicings and solos on that one chord (which again is basic) before going onto the next chord and then does the same thing. To me this is how you learn guitar by studying practicing and trying things out and finding out what goes with what. Keb Mo gives some good advice and instead of spoon feeding people stuff gives you the basics and then wants you to elaborate and expand upon them i.e. using your mind not stealing so and so's lick. Very good dvd but it probably is not for everybody.
