Product Description
An off-road jungle race on a remote, tropical island. Two racers have gone missing without a trace, something has gone terribly wrong.

From the Back Cover
Throughout the countless native communities of the Indonesian islands, the rumors and stories of the hostile Datoga tribe have existed for centuries. About how they defended their small island fiercely, not allowing any outsiders anywhere near their shores. There had, in fact, been many accounts of passing boats being hit with flaming arrows from the shoreline, an effective, stern warning from the natives to keep away from their island. No one understood why they were so guarded and what could be so precious that would warrant defense in such a vehement manner. Some have suggested a "lake of gold riches" located deep in the inland jungles. Others have spoken of a mysterious "cloudless thunder", an ancient force with the power to wake the dead. But no visitors to the island have ever come into contact with the tribe and lived to tell about it. All rumors are exactly that: just rumors. In the mid-1960s after intense pressure from fishermen, tour companies, and researchers, the government sent exploratory troops to the island. A bloody confrontation with the natives ensued and the tribe was driven deep into the jungle, never to be heard from again. The government stated that they had been wiped out. The island was declared off limits except for a small camp of a government sponsored research project kept under tight watch and guard. It was deemed safe for tourist and fishing boats to circle, but not land on the island. And just like that, the hostile incidents stopped. No reports of any confrontations have surfaced for the better part of three decades, a definitive statistic of permanent victory in the government's eyes.

So when the Norttcell Company of New York City inquired about the possibility of organizing their annually sponsored off-road jungle race on the untamed, rain forest location of Datoga Island, the government did not deliberate for very long before accepting the large chunk of money offered by the communications giant. It was only when two of the racers went missing without a trace did the trouble begin.

5.0 out of 5 stars A GREAT PAGE TURNER! VERY ORIGINAL!, April 12, 2002
By bill d. (Los Angeles, CA, USA) - See all my reviews
Loved it! Awesome suspense. Fast paced, filled with great plot twists, I couldn't put it down! Easy to read, written for readers of all ages. OK for kids and adults! Main theme is adventure but contains moral drama and a touch of clean romance too. Best of all I found it to be very original, couldn't believe how it all turned out. Excellent bedroom material, but be warned, you'll want to finish it all at once! I definitely recommend it!

5.0 out of 5 stars TERRIFIC READ FOR ALL AGES, April 25, 2002
Very original plot. This is a case where the story is bigger than the characters. And that's a good thing. The story advances at a rapid pace and draws the reader into a new world. A great escape from the everyday. Don't be scared away by the adventurous mystique. Human elements such as morality and romance also come through, making it appeasing for male and female readers alike. Most definitely recommend it to anyone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Original Book, June 26, 2003
This rates as one of my favorites. As with all fiction books, you must suspend your desire for school lessons and simply enjoy the ride, not knowing what will happen in the end. In Datoga Island, Henry and Lou take a wrong turn and aggravate a native tribe trying to protect their long-secret treasure. The adventures in the rain forest and travel in the underground caves were fantastic fun. I enjoyed Dave's slick style, and the supporting roles of Kepi and Sebastian in this book. If you truly want to have a few days of enjoyable, entertaining reading, you won't go wrong with Datoga Island.
