4.0 out of 5 stars Best Comprehensive Pharmacy Review Book Available, September 8, 1999
This book is excellent for use in pharmacy school, board review, or in practice. All areas of pharmacy practice are covered. Next to Facts and Comparisons I reach for this book to answer questions I have on any drug topic. Try finding which ingredients are the best for sun protection in the PDR. This book concisely provides the information you need.

3.0 out of 5 stars Only good if you already know what's in it, April 28, 2004
By Samara (Canada) - See all my reviews
Not a BAD book, but not a GREAT one.
The first few chapters are very good actually, but when you get into the medications and physiological systems, it does not help a lot, and if you don't already know 50% about the subject, it does more bad (in confusing and frustrating you ) than good. It would be best to have a basic pharmacology book at hand while reading the later chapters.

What is even more disappointing and frustrating is that there is not much new in the new edition, some chapters are rearranged, combined ... but there is very little new knowledge. A very clear yet simple example is that there is no mention of one of the most prescribed drugs there is, Viagra, in the review... (or other drugs in this category). Knowing that this information is missing makes you wonder all the time: what else is not there?

Another frustration would be how compact some of the information is. A lot of information is packed into small tables and you wonder if you need to know all of this or not ... and then you go to other references and see half a chapter covering the condensed data ... you wonder how should you spend your limited studying time.

To sum it up, if you can get your hands on the previous edition, you would be saving yourself a few dollars ... and if you plan on buying this one, you might want to have other studying aids at hand.

3.0 out of 5 stars Decent reference book
I found this book most useful as a reference tool. It's not very useful in terms of studying for the NAPLEX. It is, however, detailed and I do occassionally refer back to it.
