About the Author

Julie Aigner-Clark founded The Baby Einstein Company in 1997. Her goal was to provide fun, interactive ways to expose her own babies to the arts and humanities, subjects that were important to her as a former English teacher. Julie's first two videos, Baby Einstein and Baby Mozart, were filmed in her basement using borrowed equipment and edited on a home computer. Five years, ten videos and 30 children's books later, Julie sold Baby Einstein to The Walt Disney Company. In 2001, the year of acquisition, the company's sales exceeded $20 million and Baby Einstein-branded products could be found at specialty and mass retailers nationwide. Baby Einstein videos received accolades for giving infants and toddlers a way to experience joy and laughter through classical music, poetry, nature and art. As reported in The New York Times on October 28, 2003, 32 percent of all new babies born in the United States own Baby Einstein videos. Prior to the sale to Disney, Julie and the story of Baby Einstein were covered extensively by the national media, including appearances by Julie on The Oprah Winfrey Show, Entertainment Tonight, Live! With Regis and Kelly, The View and The John Walsh Show , and feature articles in USA Today, The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, Los Angeles Times, Time Magazine, People Magazine, Redbook, Elle, Entrepreneur, Parenting Magazine, Child Magazine, Baby Talk and Working Mother. Julie also is the recipient of Ernst & Young's "Entrepreneur of the Year Award," as well as Working Mother's "Entrepreneur of the Year Award" in three categories - Most Philanthropic Company, Most Innovative Business and Best Small Company. In 2003, she received The Distinguished Alumni Award from The College of Arts and Letters of Michigan State University. In the citation, she was credited with starting a billion-dollar media industry centered on stimulating the minds of infants and toddlers. Julie's new venture is a return to familiar territory - creating and incubating new brands. Aigner Clark Creative combines her love of the creative process with her commitment to charitable-giving. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

2.0 out of 5 stars Doesn't flow well, May 17, 2005
By Chococat "chococat69" (Santa Cruz, CA United States) - See all my reviews
I expected more from this book since it's from Baby Einstein, but the language in the book doesn't flow well. I like the thick, puffy pages that I can use to help teach my 3-month-old how to turn the pages, but the story isn't well-written. I also thought it was funny that the back of the book tells parents to imitate the sounds of the animals that the tadpole meets in the pond, yet the animals in the book are minnows, salamander, beaver and heron. I wish I knew what sound a salamander makes so that I could imitate it for my baby!

4.0 out of 5 stars Cute and educational, March 11, 2005
By Pizor (London, England) - See all my reviews
What's great about this book is that it's actually educational. Unlike most bath books which hardly offer any story at all, the Baby Einstein books offer plenty of text with their standard style of illustrations.

Though the story in this book isn't written that well, it offers plenty of info in a simple fashion. Ex."A brown box turtle sleeps at the edge of the pond. The turtle's hard shell keeps its soft body safe." Not very poetic, but it still teaches even young children something.

The book is about a tadpole who swims around a pond looking at all of the different animals that live there, too. Don't buy this for a cute, well written story, but buy it for the fact that it's an informative story which is rare on its own, and downright amazing for a bath book.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not well written, December 30, 2003
I bought this book based on the Baby Einstein name, and I wish I'd bought something else. The illustrations are cute, but it's not well-written. It doesn't flow like most kids' books. I then realized it was written by Julie Aigner Clark herself, who is a genius for making videos, but is not a spectacular writer.

From now on, I will only buy books unseen from writers I already know and like.
